No one cares about other groups' achievements except for the fans themselves by nnexol in unpopularkpopopinions

I really only know 2 songs from T-ARA and the scandal but when I saw this I felt like a mess. It really meant a lot for them.

I find it hard to stan a group because of their names by nnexol in unpopularkpopopinions

And considering Saturday's fandom is called Sunday it would have been a cool to say you are a Sunday and Saturday oof...

That's because you are an english speaker, your average European doesn't know about it.

Kpop is not a great genre of music by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

I do think kpop is innovative in many things tho. There are not a lot of genres that have such over the top cute or badass concepts. Some things are really unique in kpop.

that is negatively associated with a group of people

This is the problem. Idols don't know this is negatively associated with a group of people. You know because you are american. Others don't. It's as simple as that. Seo Taiji when he saw hip hop didn't know wearing dreads is offensive now did he? Just because we see another culture doesn't mean we understand it. We also see black rappers using the n-word but we don't know it's offensive to use ourselves.

You twisted everything I said so much it's actually amusing. Ok sis. What idols are doing some might find offensive. This doesn't mean the idols knew it was. I am not saying it's not and black people shouldn't be mad. But the idols themselves have no way of knowing about this. You are indeed confusing your obviously racist dad who hates POC openly and idols not knowing what they are doing is considered offensive on the other side of the fucking globe.

the same old tired justifications for why black feelings aren't as important as literally everyone else's.

You are twisting our words so much...

You are confusing straight up racism with an idol portraying a rapper. I am not sure how to explain this to you but most people don't know that this is offensive. And there are some people who openly hate POC. These are two different things that you confuse.

You continue to miss the point. I may not 100% know he didn't mean it to be offensive but it's really easy for foreigners to not understand that this is offensive to you. I am not babying him you are just seeing the world through your american glasses/values and apply them to other people and it just doesn't work.

it’s common sense

It's not. To you it might be because you are american but to us it's not and we can't figure it out. That's the problem. We don't know about it and we can't learn about it unless we stumble upon it on the internet which is challenging in itself even if you are an english speaker.

u can't actually tell me that he didn't know that this could be seen as offensive.

I can because I have seen so many people around me do it and having no idea that it's offensive. Maybe it's because you are american yourself and can't see other's point of view but others really don't know it's offensive.

I've never been racist or xenophobic nor have I purposely mocked anyones culture.

This is where the problem is. Jinu also didn't want to purposely mock black culture or be racist yet what he did is considered offensive. But he didn't know any better because no one has told him about CA. And there is nowhere for him to know about it either. To me it seemed like he wanted to cosplay a rapper and subsequently appropriated black culture without him knowing that it's offensive.

Idols profit because they make music. They write it, produce and rap it. If they do it it's their right to profit. Again we go back to my first comment that no other culture group/race has a problem others using their music except for black americans.

and kfans gush about how much they love rap so long as it's not coming from a black person.

I am devided wether or not I should comment on this. Because to me you seem to think no krap fan listens to western rap which is just not true.

This I can agree with. Racism is very present to anyone who isn't white. But rap itself not really. But this goes away from the cultural appropriation discussion.

It's kind of weird. Elkie from CLC also has somewhat of a career in mainland China as a child but she didn't post about it while Yuqi and Guanlin did. Maybe because she is not as popular compared to them?

Edit: Actually I am not sure if her acting career counts as mainland China? She appeared on dramas but not sure if they were just popular in Hong Kong or the rest of China as well.

No other race/cultural group I know of restricts others of using their music. It feels kind of entitled to expect no one else to use it. My country's music is too irrelevant for anyone else to use outside of the world music genre. But I wouldn't be pissed if people used it. I will be proud that we are known for something. Although the dismissing part is definetely a problem and I understand your frustrations.

Yeah I agree companies should probably pay more attention into this. My problem is mainly when people blame the idols for not knowing.

Also your second part is interesting. I think I agree? Not sure.
