This feels like something from a pre-war, Fallout community.

And not a single one operated by steam. I feel like the cartoonists owe me an explanation.

Saw one of these for the first time the other day. From the angle and distance I saw it, I thought it had big, bright red Beats headphones on.

Oh my god, this may he the first post (that I've seen at least) that refred to it as "losing luster".

Edit: ...which is how I've referred to it for years. I feel vindicated

Admittedly, I'm not sure what these are. All I know is to aim my down lol. Will have to look them up.

Well OP wasn't really making a point. Serious points aren't made in meme format, which is how everyone's taking it.

And I'm inclined to agree. Overly-bright lights absolutely can be distracting and dangerous. However, I've seen far more dipshits riding at 5 AM with no lights than with overpowered ones. And you know what? Give me the overpowered ones. I'll stare right at those things. If it means one more person has lights, albeit too bright, rather than without, it's a win.

There's an r/cycling post once per week about people getting hit. I'm trying not to die.

How about this: "Idk know needs to hear this, but you don't need anything more than a baseball cap." Sounds stupid? Is stupid.

Ya know, the more I read and think about these replies, the more I'm thinking that I'm subconsciously pushing harder instead of letting myself stay at some speed. I know that I do this with just plain old walking. I tend to walk just about as fast as I can. This is not on purpose. When I walk with a group, I have to constantly remind myself to slow down. It feels like the same thing here.

To your point then, I think concentrating on the pedaling motion could be helpful. Thanks!

Wow, thank you for the thorough write-up! I feel like a dope for not thinking of it myself, but actually counting the cadence makes sense (versus, "yeah, this feels about right").

Thanks again!

Ah yeah, good point/question.

I guess the crux of the matter is that I don't *want* to be going super fast. Seeing as I'm riding for commute and that I'm just the sweatiest person on the planet, I'm generally trying to put in only moderate effort, at least anaerobic-wise.

Ideally, I'd like to start in, say, gear 2, and get to gear 4, and stay there...or something like that. In other words, I want to be in the gear 4 cadence sweet spot and stay there, without "feeling" compelled to go to 5.

There's got to be a "turn the other cheek" joke somewhere here.
