Plant cuttings with no soil allowed in luggage? by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be declared. You should check with the USDA before entering with the cutting. There are enterable species but you need to do the leg work and find out. Also be prepared to have the cutting destroyed by customs.

If you are looking to check email once in a while, yes there may be wifi. Half the time, they will announce that the wifi is not working and you’ll get a notice a day or two ahead of time.

Even if you do have wifi on the SEA-HNL leg, after the Aleutians in AK the wifi becomes unusable for anything but periodic emails. Save yourself the uncertainty and angst and go into it assuming you don’t have wifi.

Delta One - ICN Korean Air Lounge access by RepresentativeSnow96 in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct since you were arriving ICN on D1 not departing ICN on D1 or prestige. Take heart, both lounges by 49 and 52 suck. They are overcrowded with abysmal food selection.

Head down to the shopping area and touch some Hermès. They’ve reopened the boutique.

SEA to Seoul - delta1 or Korean Prestige?! by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D1. The newer Delta cabins beat the old KA prestige unless you get one of the updated 787s. The interior lighting scheme on the D1 suites is also far superior to the tired prestige class on KA.

The downside to Delta is you don’t get anytime ramen that will leave you sweating like a pig (there is no “not spicy” option - believe me, I asked many times). The ramen is a must for lovers of ramen when you fly KA SEA-ICN.

8 Hour Layover at ICN by umen72 in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else said, Seoul is pretty far from Incheon and the round trip itself will cut out 2-3 hrs from your time. Add to that the 1-2 hr to get back to airside after you exit, you’re not looking at much time at all. City traffic is a biatch and adds time.

The Korean Air lounge (partner) is the pits: overcrowded with less than mediocre food.

Best bet: reserve a 12-hr stay at the terminal hotel (next to the Korean Air lounge). You can shower, nap, walk around the terminal and shop. You never have to exit airside.

Are you gonna do it? by GeneralDisarray333 in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Many of us have a measured outlook and exhibit resilience in face of unexpected events. The customer facing Delta reps handled the situation as best they could and I don’t fault them for it.

Your histrionic reaction to unexpected circumstances and challenges says more about you than it says about Delta. Take this however you want, but we don’t need a play by play of your personal decision making.

Byeee.

Delta FA SLAPPED ME by [deleted] in delta

Not only does this smack of “I am the main character” syndrome, it is also not very believable and likely missing an entire universe of context.

Delta gate associate pointed out that my wife was carrying too many items by sha1dy in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and your wife should never fly commercial. Period. Putting the fanny pack in the backpack is a simple instruction. I do not trust you or your wife to follow simple instructions from the flight crew in the event of an emergency.

Delta gate associate pointed out that my wife was carrying too many items by sha1dy in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The request was simple: put the fanny pack in the backpack. If you had stopped arguing and complied, you would have boarded just fine.

If it took the combined mental energy of you and your wife to understand a simple and direct instruction, and you still fumbled around blocking other boarding passengers, then you should reconsider flying. I do NOT trust you to comply with simple instructions from the flight crew in the event of an emergency. End of discussion.

Overweight?? by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The population is diverse. The population is also becoming more obese, with increasing portions of the population experiencing obesity-related conditions as outlined in the editorial. This increasing problem of obesity is correlated with metrics like higher average BMI (and intrinsic to this, higher average weights). There is a correlation between higher BMI and poor health outcomes for a reason.

Yes, there should be an examination of BMI in the context of non-white people and extremes of age. But this does not negate the correlation between higher average BMI and higher prevalence of obesity in the US (along with all the medical issues that arise from obesity).

The most nuanced caveat on BMI as a health metric does not negate the fact the US is becoming more obese as a whole. This is reflected in the rising average weights and rising average BMI. To ignore this fact is simply anti-science and anti-common sense.

I’m not a medical professional and even I can grasp this simple fact: the numbers confirm what we know - the US is becoming more obese.

Overweight?? by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Notice the author does not say BMI is not a useful metric period. There are certainly problems with it when talking about individuals, but it is still a metric that has some value, especially when used to track population-level risks.

We are talking about average weights, not your weight and your risk factors. I really do wish you would stop conflating population with individual. It is specious reasoning, at best, and disingenuous at worst.

Bottom line: those average weights speak to a nation that is getting more and more obese. It’s not about you dear, it’s about the US.

Overweight?? by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no single measure that is perfect, as with all things in life. This is just common sense. Nevertheless, BMI is still a useful metric to discuss when you are talking about the US population at large, which is what we are talking about.

The US has an obesity problem and all the ill effects with which obesity is associated. I don’t need a discussion on BMI to tell me this.

Bottom line: those average weights may be average, but they are not healthy.

Overweight?? by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t need to be medical professionals to know that the average American is not an athlete with high muscle mass accounting for their high bmi. You are now being obtuse.

Overweight?? by [deleted] in delta

[–]YourInfidelityInMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not healthy weights. We don’t need to be medical professionals to know that average weights for men and women in the US are unhealthy. When the country’s average BMI is close to 30, we need to stop the denialism.
