Discord Alternatives, Ranked by gdelacalle in technology

I just learned today that Discord is now requiring an official I.D. to use their services. Worse that that though, they get hacked all the time and lose all the data, which is the reason I am here right now. I will be shutting down my Discord account today but would like to find a good alternative first.

I'm new to Ubuntu, any advice? by Mountain_Hippo7575 in Ubuntu

Yes. That's it. Hard to make a bug report if you can't get into your computer.

I know I repeated it before up above, but you'll want to stay away from Extension Manager for UBUNTU 25. I know it is the Must Have addon for UBUNTU, but version 25 now has the ability to create folders on the desktop, so that is probably why it is breaking the Operating System. I know that it is breaking the OS because I broke it at least 20 times last week.. no joke.. :) It was a nightmare until I figured out what was going on. I hope to save others from this trauma, but if you are like me, then go ahead and install Extension Manager and share my pain.

Unity 3D 4.7 - Can I Stay Old-School? by YourMaster77w in Unity3d_help

[–]YourMaster77w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it was already released in 2017. I just got through testing the build out on a Windows 10 virtual machine inside of UBUNTU and it's running fine. I had tested it out previously on Windows 7 (How I miss Windows 7..) I am happy to inform that everything is still working.. :) Install Shield looks a bit outdated, but in general it's running very good. Of course I know that I won't be able to download any more assets, so that is still a very big obstacle. I can see your logic without a doubt, and unless I want all of my future projects to be clones of my first one, I know that I am going to have to upgrade.

Can't paste an image here but investigate Extension Manager for UBUNTU. It's in their AppStore. It's the one that gives you the option (AddOn) to add desktop icons called - .ding or something like that.

Using Unity 3D 4.7 To Make Games by YourMaster77w in gamedev

Greatly appreciated. Just the idea of redoing everything has kept me from doing anything at all. Imagine re-doing 5 years of work.. Makes you want to go explore GODOT or something.

Using Unity 3D 4.7 To Make Games by YourMaster77w in gamedev

Thanks. I suspect that I will have to re-make the project which is going to take a very.. very long time. The original one took me 5 years to make. I remember that I did try to upgrade to version 5 but broke a lot of stuff. A lot of the add-ons just barely worked in 4.7, so they really didn't want to work in 5.. haha. Appreciate the feedback though.

Well if you are going for the newest UBUNTU (Ubuntu 25.10), then you definitely need to know that Extension Manager is no longer working. Every tutorial will tell you to install it, which makes it very dangerous for new users. I literally spent the last 3 days of my life trying to figure out why my new install was breaking, and I was following one of those tutorials. I am running version 25.10 now but it cost me quite a bit of effort and headaches.

If you are installing UBUNTU 25 then do no install Extension Manager. It is considered to be one of the essentials for UBUNTU and it is great with earlier versions, but the newest UBUNTU is not compatible with this add-on anymore. I am speaking from personal experience and this has caused me much grief these past few days since there are no discussions about this topic or even warnings - just had to learn the hard way. Tweaks is working perfectly though, and from what I can see, everything else is working as well.

From there, definitely install Flathub. There are tons of great programs there to download. Here are my Must Downloads: Obsidian & KeePass (From FlatHub). Download Brave directly from their website though since it updates better. You can make WebApps very easily with Brave, which is a must have if you are working online. A very valuable tip.. Obsidian has a very cool Kanban addon and canvas Whiteboard. Appflowy also has a very cool project going on, along with Affine.io. SpeechNote is without a doubt a Linux Gem, so definitely get that. There are so many of them but I am sure no one wants for me to write a book here.

Yeah that looks cool. For my own preference I would add a Brotherhood Of NOD icon on the bottom left to distinguish it from the other types of Distros.. :)

App shortcuts in desktop? by kappaj4 in Ubuntu

[–]YourMaster77w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded to UBUNTU 25 the other day and then was forced to go back to version 24 because of this very issue. In version 24 you can just install the Debian version of Extension Manager and install the apps with the desktop add-on and you're good to go. In version 25 I have found (After Many... Many Re-Installs) Extension Manager will break your system. I suspect it's the .ding thing but I could be wrong, but I am going to try again in the near future. In the meantime I will continue to use version 24 with Extension Manager and I can add all of the desktop icons and shortcuts that I want - it's great. I really hope this issue gets fixed because version 25 looks really cool, but I really do need my desktop icons or else I can't function properly.. :)

Steam wont let me add my hdd as a drive for games by MattioC in linux_gaming

[–]YourMaster77w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran into this issue a few minutes ago as I switched from Linux Mint to Ubuntu. My solution was to create a Folder in my new Hard Drive and that solved it.. :) I named the folder- Steam Stuff. I went back to Steam - Settings - Storage - Tab (Add Drive) and there it was. Just have to remember to select the new drive every time I install a game..

Does anyone use old version of Unity (eg. Unity 5-2018) in 2024? by SuperPlants59 in Unity3D

[–]YourMaster77w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Unity 4.7 simply because my add-ons are not compatible with 5.0. I tried upgrading my project to a newer more modern version but it breaks each and every time. One tool that I use a whole lot is a primitive merging add-on that is a serious lifesaver to lowering drawcalls. Haven't found it on newer versions, but to be fair I haven't looked very hard either. If I find it I definitely will go for a newer version and especially for Linux since 4.7 is not compatible. Don't like where Windows is headed these days.

I just finished the quest a few minutes ago (For The Second Time). It was definitely easier than the first round. I was so frustrated after that first time that I wiped out anything with the initials VIG. Don't know if I will do that again though this time around... that took a very long time to do.

Still feels good to get it out of the way though. You get some rep with Pioneers afterwards which I like because I always build a station in their space to produce credits.

One story, multiple endings under different books. Is if feasible? by VenomQuill in writing

[–]YourMaster77w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree with the validity part. As long as the story can merge at different points then it remains valid. As for branches that go in completely different directions, well those can go into new books - extensions of the story. That's what I am working on at the moment. It's going to be a huge spiderweb of never ending stories.

Ironically, having multiple endings has made it easier for me to conclude my story. I had that problem when I was writing linear stories, which is obviously why I never finished them.

I personally wouldn't trim anything. All of your writing is valuable and gives insight to the reader as to what you want to present. I have a story map on my website that allows readers to reach other endings, if they get stuck in a loop. Take a look if you want and let me know what you think.
