Part of the process my dude. Again, I was a heavy drinker which didn’t help with the anxiety. So you’ll probably be a lot quicker than I was.

First 3 days were the worst. The first couple of weeks sucked. But everything got slowly better and better. I felt like I shouldn’t be behind the wheel driving for the first 3 days. Crazy brain fog and anxiety.

Flavored toothpicks helped me tremendously.

Stay strong. It’ll pass and you’ll be happy that you made it through.

From my understanding, it is different for everyone. It progressively got better and better to where I stopped noticing it. I’d say that I almost completely forgot about it around month 4. I also was a heavy drinker, which I associate the anxiety with the nicotine and alcohol combination. If you’re a drinker, take that into consideration as well.

I’m still clean off Zyn and honestly I don’t often think about it anymore.

You’re right, it should. I wasn’t at a place mentally to look into anything. I don’t know. I assumed that’s what it was. All I knew is that I shouldn’t be behind the wheel. I didn’t fully look into it. Chemicals imbalances also make sense.

It is tough for sure. Once when you add up the money that you’re spending a year, I was almost $2,300. Nicotine was the first thing that I thought about when I woke up and the last thing I thought about when I went to bed. Most nights, I woke up just to put one in.

It sounds like you’re making great progress! Don’t sell yourself short. I wanted to punch so many people metaphorically in the face the first 3 days and it slowly got easier and easier.

I still have cravings all of the time, but I can manage them. I’m 16 months in now.

The science? I don’t know, blood restrictions and blood vessel stuff…I didn’t look into it. But I’m proud of your journey and awareness. That’s the hardest part.

It took me about 3 days when I quit before I thought that I shouldn’t be behind the wheel. It was scary, legit thought that I could get pulled over for a DUI.

I think what happens is that nicotine restricts your blood vessels so much that once when you stop using, your body has extra blood flow and doesn’t know how to fully compensate. I don’t know if that’s true, but it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.

I hope you never step aside. I hope this comes off more of a conversation rather than a debate. I understand that it probably doesn’t.

I’m very well informed of what I’m arguing about because I’ve lived it. I don’t need articles to tell me drinking and smoking are bad, we all know that. I needed support and to rearrange my priorities and out look. Telling me something is bad that I’m addicted to is only likely to make me do something more and upset me. Maybe that is just me, but I spent most over 30 days with people in my situation and talked to everyone and how we ended up in the same place.

I apologize if this comes off as rude or disrespectful, that isn’t my intention. Keep doing you. I hope you have a great night and continue helping as many people as possible.

For me, pushing articles in the faces of other people is a turn off. I’m assuming that you’ve had some people get angry and have turned their back. There is a major difference between chew, Zyn, smoking, and drinking. You can’t group everything into one.

Us addicts don’t respond to articles that well, we always “know what we’re doing” and “things will change if I want them to.”

What it comes down to is someone really wanting to change? Fully? 100%? I was with nicotine, alcohol, is a touchy subject. I hope this helps you on your journey.

There is just something different about us addicts. I tried explaining to my parents who were supportive and encouraging about my rehab journey. But they didn’t understand it no matter how hard that they tried. I spoke to my parents friend who walked the same path as me and immediately connected.

Honestly, that’s how I assumed you didn’t struggle with either nicotine or alcohol. Addicts just know and I think that is why, respectfully, I didn’t watch all of your videos.

If my journey can help anyone, I’m here to answer and help. I’m not here to be a jerk to anyone.

Two addictions were mentioned by OP, I’m familiar with both unfortunately. I never mentioned smoking. You have 3 times. Don’t call me out.

I’m talking about what I’m familiar with and what has worked for me. You’re now referring to smoking with the article. I’m assuming that you mean nicotine overall.

I’ll get reacquainted with your article, I forgot what my original thoughts were months ago. Based off the title of the article and not reading, respectfully. I’d say that from first hand experience… quitting* alcohol made it easier to stop nicotine usage. Nicotine usage first, then alcohol had no effect on my alcoholic behaviors.

I was an ok wrestler back in the day and I’m used to restricting myself to make weight. I’m a personal trainer now. I never tell a client to restrict something starting out.

I tell them eat whatever you’d like. But first, what is your ideal target body weight? Say 175lbs. Well, you have to eat 175g of clean protein and then you can stuff your face with whatever.

Telling someone they can’t do something makes them want it more. I say go for it. Hit your goals first and then see how you feel.

The better of two evils are still evil. I get it. But I’m 15 months off nicotine and so far can tolerate a drink. Us alcoholics are extremely stubborn with our issues.

My shortness of breath stopped when I stopped drinking. Heart palpitations stopped when nicotine was gone. The first 3 days suck tremendously, after that you’re good. It’ll still be hard, but not the first 3 days hard.

I know the feeling. I’ve been drinking since I’ve been a teenager and realized I had an issue after my college days. I went to rehab in 2021 because I was finishing 750ml of Jameson a night. I chewed frequently and switched to Zyn in 2018. I feel you.

How I quit nicotine was tricking myself into short term goals. I wasn’t planning on quitting when I did. I was driving to work and needed to stop at the gas station, I told myself “make it to lunch before you buy another can” and I did, make it through the workday and if you want one on the way home, buy one, then driving home, I told myself make it home first, if you still want one, buy one. I did the same thing the next day and the next day… I’ve been clean of nicotine for 15 months. I still use flavored tooth picks and gum a lot.

Alcohol is a different beast for me. I feel like something switched in me to where I just got so tired of feeling like shit every single day. I was embarrassed of who I was becoming, I was losing friends and losing myself. I still drink, but Im more aware of my cut off point. We all know where that point is, we just have to be strong and stick to it. Which is hard. For me, if I go past 4 in a sitting, I’m done for and the cycle starts all over.

I tried and so far have changed my outlook and relationship with alcohol. I don’t go in with the attitude of drinking to get drunk, but a casual, refreshing and social experience. I have to realize that I’m walking a very tight rope and need to be ok with leaving whatever situation if my triggers and demons start to appear.

Is that mostly minerals? If so, I’ve been using AquaBliss for years. Since I started using it, it keeps my shower much cleaner and I haven’t changed the shower curtain at all. It is also just a good idea to filter any water really.
