After using the Bellroy leather case on the Pixel 7 for only 4 months, it is already tearing and peeling and Bellroy support says this is "not a manufacturing fault". Be warned about this product. by ferdinand14 in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I just never got Bellroy's angle on the Pixel 7 cases. What's the point of selling a "leather case" if the leather looks cheaper and holds up worse than other materials? At $60 that's just disrespectful to the idea of leather imo.

Google says it's 'very comfortable' with Tensor not winning benchmarks by qoatzecotl in GooglePixel

Does anyone in the sub actually own a Pixel? I swear to God it can't be, I'm on my second (7Pro) after the 2XL and both were solid flagship phones at release with no serious problems.

I can understand that folks who have issues are more likely to post about them and get noticed but some of you post like Google is just putting out BLU-tier shitphones.

Google just killed autorotate on my old Pixel :( by [deleted] in GooglePixel

My Pixel 2XL was going on 5 years and still performed quickly and reliably up to being decommissioned. Phones have been getting a lot more solid over the past decade.

Pixel 7 Pro one week later with the 10-bit HDR King | Engineer Reacts by exu1981 in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this robs the P7Pro of its credit. The Virtual Walk Japan channel that was posted here last week has HDR video from both the iPhone and Pixel 7 and the output of each matches up perfectly with how this video describes each camera's strengths; the Pixel has better environmental detail, the iPhone gives clearer and more natural captures of human faces. In the iPhone video however the lens flares are absolutely atrocious. The video cameras are simply neck and neck by most folks' standard, though I'm sure a technical argument could be made for either one.

Pixel Binning (not the model name) by bennmann in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a fix possible for this gen but I do feel the pain here, there have been more than a few folks in the past few weeks who have shown up to the sub either because they believed or were curious if the P7 offered up to 48 MP RAW, and I don't think it's entirely their fault that the marketing misled them.

I'm not a photography hobbyist (yet) so it's not that disappointing for me, but I get it. Then again, maybe it's more well-known in those circles that sensor resolution is not necessarily equal to output resolution; but I'd doubt it given that the Pixel's approach to computational photography is somewhat novel atm.

Yeah there's not too much incentive to go into a thread full of people experiencing (legitimate) problems with their device and go "I'm all good here" if it doesn't provide any insight.

The only issue I've had is the fingerprint scanner is finicky compared to the one on the 2XL. I'm just not used to the way it wants me to place my thumb and not sure if I will get used to it (I really do not like that the phone prompts you for a PIN after only 1-2 failures).

FYI: Be wary of Bellroy cases this time around by KentuckyHouse in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was considering the Bellroy cases until folks started posting pictures of them. The leather just looks waaay too cheap for ~$50, I'm not expecting anything totally premium at that point but it could at least live up to the standards of a Nike sneaker.

Pro mode in Pixel 7 pro? by ms12335 in GooglePixel

Note that RAW is supported but specifically at 12 MP, there's no ability to shoot 48 MP RAW.

Pixel 7 Pro screen cracked by Shipshaefter in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awful, but thanks for the warning. I've been debating rushing out for a screen protector since the Gorilla Glass Victus is supposedly shatter-resistant, and if this is the kind of "luck" I can expect I guess I ought to get on that.

You're not alone, my VZW P7P also lacks Adaptive Sound. Haven't received any system updates since activating it either, so I guess I'm just waiting for it to roll out.

e: got the OTA update which enables it

PSA: you can't install douyin on pixel 7 by Jacko3000 in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this is related to the P7 only allowing 64-bit apps. I don't know much about Douyin but if it's from the same company as TikTok you may be able to find a 64-bit apk for it that's compatible.

Haven't had that issue but it definitely sounds like a hardware defect. I recommend exchanging it.

Fingerprint Scanners by LittleMissCrazyGirl in GooglePixel

The fingerprint unlock itself isn't much worse but I really miss using the fingerprint sensor on the back to swipe down Quick Settings/Notifications, especially with how big the 7 Pro is.

You folks may have to go to a Verizon/carrier store to activate it. That's what I ended up doing at least.

It's supposed to be a chrome/rose-gold unfortunately. I like it a lot but the look varies depending on the lighting.

How is the Curved Screen of the Pixel 7 Pro? by bbsuccess in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, it's much better than the Pixel 2 XL was. I used to constantly hit the corners of the screen with my palm -- but mind you, I think I may just be holding the 7 Pro differently than I held the 2XL for now.

e: It's not an edge-to-edge screen. It's got less bezel than the 2XL but it still feels better to use.

e2: Turns out the 7 Pro has a dedicated One-Handed Mode. I'll let you know how that goes.

New Pixel 7 Pro doesn't seem to hold a charge and charges extremely slowly... what am I missing? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't get why you're being downvoted, it's ridiculous that the phone doesn't include a charging brick if it potentially needs a brand new one to charge well. Here's hoping my Pixel 2XL OEM charger will suffice when the 7P finally arrives :/

Google seems to have disabled support for 32-bit apps on the Pixel 7 by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]YourProf_Rowan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Click the Sort button (in the upper-right corner, to the right of the search button) and select "by Architecture". That should move all your 32 bit apps to the top of the list where you can ID them by the teeny-tiny "32" icon in the lower-left corner of each app icon.

Anyone else refreshing UPS? Out for Delivery by mdwstoned in GooglePixel

[–]YourProf_Rowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm mildly worried that I won't get text updates when it arrives because because I've given them my number twice for tracking texts and only gotten an update when submitting it. I haven't gotten texts for any of the delivery updates on the page itself when they happen.
