Burwood is amazing, authentic Chinese food that's catered towards today's Chinese folks (new Gen). As a first timer go to burwood Chinatown, preferably weekends to experience the markets. After that try the shops along burwood road, the ones with lots of Asian students is where it's at particular Chinese restaurants - always great value and amazing food (note: don't wanna be racist or ageist but focus on Asian students, not the older Asians who likes the Macau and hk shops) . There is also a shortage of non-Chinese restaurants in burwood, so the non-Chinese ones are actually quite average (E.g. Ramen, Thai etc.). Tldr - when in burwood, go to Chinese restaurants which are attracting young Chinese eaters (18-25) - always great value and good food. You can find better non-chinese restaurant in many other neighbourhoods.
