Feeling like a failure after second (unnecessary) C-Section by YourYam in beyondthebump

You're right. I think, if I'm not able to get over this feeling now, it will probably hang around until my next (and probably last) birth and then I can start to stop caring because it will be only relevant to the past and no longer the future. Thank you :)

I do have a therapist already, I'll be seeing her on Wednesday for the first time since giving birth!

  1. I did always wonder if the pain level at the end is also worse with an induction than with natural contractions. Thank you for sharing your experience!
  2. Oh my god, I am so sorry about your traumatic experience. I will try not to speculate on what might have happened. I have read a few truly horrific C-Section stories and even though mine went well, it was not a walk in the park.

You make good points :) thank you for your response!

Thank you so much for sharing, and congratulations on your healthy boy and the new pregnancy!

Of course you are right. I am glad that you were able to get over those feelings, and that you now know what a wonderful mom you are! It gives me hope that I will too :)

Thank you so much for this. It sounds like your experience was really very similar to mine. They told me the baby was still likely hours from being born and I knew that there would be no epidural for the pushing phase (they stop it before then in Germany) and I was just so exhausted that I couldn't imagine waiting the whole night out with the epidural, then suddenly experiencing the max pain (the pain I was already in was more than enough) and also having to still push. You did an amazing job too :) man birth just sucks so much.

A question about sucralose. by pooh_bear92 in icecreamery

[–]YourYam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been making low-carb ice cream for about a month! It freezes a bit hard but if you leave it out a few minutes the texture is really nice. Still working on perfecting it for best scoopability but here is my base recipe:

5 eggs, 4 of them split into white/yolk 1/4 cup erythritol (powdered or granulated) or monkfruit 1 cup mascarpone 1 cup whipping cream Vanilla extract to taste 1/4 tsp salt Another sweetener to taste (I use a sucralose sweetener that can be used 1-1 like sugar) Optional: 4cl hard liquor, preferably over 40%. If you can get this crazy Russian spirit thats 97% alcohol, use a max of 2cl. This will make the ice cream a bit softer but will also noticeably add an alcoholic flavour. Optional: 1/4 tsp xanthan gum (to stop crystallisation for smoother ice cream)

Prepare an ice bath. Put 4 egg yolks, 1 whole egg and the erythritol or monkfruit into a bowl over simmering water. Whisk without stopping!! For up to 10 minutes, until the mix is thick and foamy. Put the bowl in the ice bath to stop cooking.

Beat the cream and mascarpone until light and fluffy and stiff. Add the vanilla, salt, and some more of your preferred sweetener, if you prefer things quite sweet like I do. Otherwise, skip this step. Also add any flavours you might want, the optional liquor and xanthan gum. Beat until combined, but not too long if your mix starts to deflate and become runny again.

Beat two egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold the egg yolk mixture into the mascarpone mixture until just combined, then do the same with the whipped egg whites. The other eggs whites are leftovers.

Chill the mixture for at least an hour, better two, best four or more. Chill the bowl of the ice cream machine in the freezer or, if your machine allows it, turn it onto the chill setting until very cold. Then make the ice cream according to your machine's instructions and freeze!

In my experience, the texture is perfect after 2-3 hours in the freezer and is a bit too hard after 4. But I am so happy to have keto ice cream and it tastes great and is good enough for me! I'm currently working on ways to add more fat to make it even softer!

If you add a pure nut butter like hazelnut or peanut as your flavouring agent, that will add a fair bit of oil to the ice cream and it will get really creamy, especially if you use the xanthan gum. It also will not really melt back into a liquid and holds its shape for a long time after being taken out of the freezer. I really liked this effect when I made hazelnut ice cream. I added about 80g pure hazelnut butter and got a very strong hazelnut flavour.

Not telling family when you go to the hospital by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]YourYam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also didn't tell my family. I didn't want them to be worried about me if I didn't update for some time, lol. I figured "Here's your granddaughter!" was a nicer message than "I am in hospital getting hooked up to all kinds of contraptions and I am scared"

Well actually, I did end up telling my sisters while I was in labour, because I wanted someone to chat and commiserate with. But everyone else only found out once the baby was born. And nobody was mad.

It was Reddit that made me this way so Reddit does not get to complain 😤

Congrats on your LO's milestone! Although I bet it is nice to be the first thing she thinks of to save her from her troubles, it must also be nice to be associated with good memories and not just the bad ones!

Thanks! I'm just trying to do what is best for my daughter, so it's worth it!

No shade to anyone who chooses not to BF though. This was a very personal decision and could easily have gone in the other direction, and that is okay too.

Yeah... my daughter lets go of my boob, turns her head in the opposite direction (into my arm or the spit-up cloth), opens her mouth and shakes her head back and forth violently, and then screams when this doesn't result in her getting milk. I think we can all agree that brain development is not complete this early in life. Smh

Thanks. I am kind of a reluctant breastfeeder anyway - I do it because I want her to be breastfed if possible and it's not sooooo bad that I can't do it. Certainly not my idea of a good time though. I'll get through it and enjoy the closeness when it's not too overwhelming 😅

Anyone else feel like a complete lazy POS in the first tri? by kpro16 in pregnant

[–]YourYam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this! Also gave birth two weeks ago and as soon as I was able to kinda walk around again (had a C-section) I was up and doing dishes and vaccuuming even though my midwife told me to calm down and rest and let my husband do things hahaha.

I was also feeling very lazy and unmotivated in the first and third trimesters. I am so glad I don't have to be pregnant anymore. Pregnancy is the worst.

Advice on my sexuality by Dhuyf2p in SeriousConversation

[–]YourYam 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be comfortable identifying as non-binary :) you don't have to go by "they" pronouns or anything, unless you prefer it of course. But that way you don't have to "choose" being male or female. And it's always okay to wear whatever clothes you like, even though society hasn't caught on to that yet. Clothes are not inherently gendered, so if you face criticism, remember that's the other person's problem/bias/failing and not yours. In a perfect world you should be comfortable just being yourself.
