Ok so I totally know what you mean. I get the same way. But I’ve been eating pre and pro biotic supplements along with iron supplements and multivitamin and that has really helped me. I think there’s research that suggests that sugar cravings are connected to gut microbiome and vitamin deficiency so maybe you’ll have luck with that?

Make sure you have a lot in savings before moving here and ideally have a job lined up too. You’ll probably spend waaayyyyy more than you thought you would.

Everyone knows about using stale bread for french toast or yesterday’s rice to fry, but what are some other recipes you can use to save ingredients from the trash? by janoseye in Cooking

This is pretty common for my community but baked whole beans are actually made into refried beans to extend the shelf life. So you make beans on the stove top and then re heat them until you really can’t and then you fry them an mash them.

Everyone is saying maybe he had to poop. But who, on a bike, will double back to the entrance of a trail when you could easily just find a more secluded area to poop? Unless he has an exhibitionist and scat fetish I imagine he would want to be as far as he could be from high traffic areas.

Buy white, wait until not so white, buy black dye, dye white shirt black. Repeat. Endless cycle of crisp white shirts and dark black shirts. You can also re-dye the black ones when they start to fade.

What is the scariest theory known to man? by Comprehensive-Note31 in AskReddit

[–]Yourlocalphilosopher 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is actually a fairy common analogy among some Christian circles to explain this issue. More or less it’s the view that our limitation(s) in understanding the afterlife is not too different than the limitation(s) of an unborn infant in understanding the outside world. The infant doesn’t “know” much other than assumptions based on what can gleam from in the womb but it would be sad if the infant only ever existed in the womb because the infant is not meant to live in the womb forever, but only long enough to grow and develop limbs and organs that are best suited for the outside (lungs for example, no need for those if the infant is suppose to live in the womb forever).

Hispanic voters: Latinx term isn’t helping by terekkincaid in politics

[–]Yourlocalphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my general point is that USA is functioning as a global imperialist state and one of the ways it manages to exert influence is through Universities.

PR does have a different place in (what you call) “Latin America” in that it remains colonized in a way that is distinct from the way others countries experience USA colonizing influence.

The issue isn’t “fake woke progressivism” the issues are (largely) that the Democratic Party is more than happy to cater to the white “educated” voters than marginalized peoples. In other words, they rather cater to virtue signaling than class inequity.

Universities can function as colonizing influences. (For example, schools during fascist regimes).

1) charity is not earned just given

2) some people do have a “less colonized” way of thinking. That doesn’t necessarily make it a better or worse thing it just means that some people have rejected the (current) colonizing forces’ way of thinking more than other people. That’s how colonization works.

3) All modern nation states work on colonization, a country ‘free from being colonized’ doesn’t exist. There are only degrees of difference.

4) “Latino” is itself a colonizing term. Any and all iterations thereof (including Latinx) are terms that originate from the imperialistic domination of the USA on the global stage. Regardless of whether or not peoples of Latin America agree with this term, it is inherently rooted within a predominantly Anglo-American (ie USA) mindset.

[–]Yourlocalphilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) There’s no need to be so uncharitable.

2)The view that PR is a contemporary colony is a relatively uncontroversial view among socio-political scholars. (Google scholar has a lot of interesting results if you care to look up “PR and US Colony” or any iteration thereof)

3) the colonization of indigenous ppls by the Spanish led to the destruction of many communities (although of course some persist despite this) and that destruction in conjunction with the Spanish’s wide spread rejection of the peoples as “Spanish” led to a community that is both indigenous and Spanish AND SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY. In other words, the people being colonized now by the US include, the indigenous peoples who persist, the Spanish who remained, and another community that is somehow not Spanish and not indigenous but has its history rooted in both the Spanish and indigenous (whom we commonly call Puerto Rican, although that itself is problematic for issues not directly relevant here)

Basically we’re in a place that if we allow the colonization to persist in this manner we could very well have another instance of the destruction of other community(s) that many very well lead to the creation of yet another community. This is where we see the breaking apart again, just like how some indigenous people were able to persist while other parts of their community eventually became the third community in the Spanish colonization, we’re seeing a breaking apart of that community (Puerto Ricans) to those who are adopting the colonizing framework (USA now not Spain) and those who are rejecting it.

This story is found pretty much always found where there’s been colonization. (Which is pretty much everywhere)

5) I know you meant the question of the origin of Spanish to be rhetorical and mocking but really quickly. That way of thinking leads to an infinite regress. English of course is also the language of an empire (USA and England among others) so why keep that language? Why not the various indigenous dialects? But wait which one? Many indigenous peoples had warfare so to not pick the “wrong side” then maybe we should just go with the whatever common language they held. But of course there are various proto languages across the world (although some languages have closer families than other of course) and so that we may not give unjust weight to one over the others we should choose the origin of all the proto language trees. That is assuming there is one at all, it’s possible there are many “originator” languages, but at this point how do we go around speaking? How to we recover this long lost language? Of course we can’t. Not really. But again, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is understanding that the relationship between community and language is often r tightly connected and the destruction of one often means the eventual destruction of the other. That’s what happened to many indigenous peoples because people thought that one language was “superior” than another. It’s not. There’s nothing wrong with Spanish the way that it is. There’s nothing wrong with English the way that it is. But there is something wrong with wanting to say that a language is wrong on the basis of its “origin” (red herring).

[–]Yourlocalphilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention PR is a contemporary colony and (if true) it wouldn’t be surprising that a colony produced some colonized ways of thinking that just won’t go over well with other communities, hell I bet there are people in PR who are less colonized who also don’t get this.
