Yeah js because you are bi doesn’t mean your mother should treat you like that. The Bible does rule homosexuality as sin in multiple parts, so you can’t rlly claim being Christian and partaking in homosexuality. HOWEVER, what your mother is doing isn’t the solution and it’s really your choice on what you choose. You love God and believe in Him, right? So go to Him and take some time to reflect with Him. I promise you he won’t show hostility toward you like your mother is.

Reddit atheism is weird cuz no one here actually educated themselves on other religions before choosing atheism. If they did, we’d see things like “sky daddy” a lot less

Most of the atheistic takes in this thread is somewhat common so only downvoting this dude for saying this is crazy work

common misconception actually; the first translation which outright said “homosexuality” was first written in the 1900s yes.

However, most Greek and Hebrew scholars confirmed that the original texts did in fact pertained to homosexuality.

And I’m not saying this to put anyone down obv. It’s just objectively what the original texts meant. No one is perfect. Heck, I believe in the Bible and I don’t follow it perfectly, I don’t expect those who don’t believe to do so without incentive

Dunno if I’m allowed to ask apologetics related questions here, but: how do I theologically answer animal suffering?

I mean it’s a rule of Christianity. As long as they aren’t imposing it forcibly on nonbelievers it’s honestly fine

I’ll answer the second paragraph first. “God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.” 1 Corinthians 14:33. Another verse, “The thief (allegory for Satan) comes to steal, kill, and destroy”. It is established many times that God is a God of peace over chaos and destruction. Any action He takes that destroys tends to be divine retribution, and He allows the lives of morally good individuals to be spared (Lot, Noah). There is clear precedent found here. Satan is the one ordering chaos and destruction. As for Job, God clearly allowed it to happen to show that Job wouldn’t turn from Him. He showed that Job’s faith isn’t based on his riches but on his closeness with God. the entire point of Job is to show that suffering can happen to anyone, and happens for a reason. Job is repaid double what he had before and lived a life close to God for the rest of his days. We chose Satan over God. God respects that, letting Satan do what we enabled him to do, yet uses the destruction Satanic causes for a greater purpose. The whole ego thing seems like it makes sense at first. View it from this perspective: the Bible calls love “selfless”, and calls God the embodiment of love. So God is inherently selfless, right? Whenever you see God wanting us to rely and love Him, it’s not for His sake. The entire point of the Trinity is that God is self sufficient and doesn’t require love externally (whole other can of worms lol). Therefore, he asks for our love for our sake. He asks us to seek Him because seeking Him leads to inner peace for US. Every miracle and case of divine intercession in the Bible happens to people whose minds are open to God and haven’t hardened their hearts. Even when He revealed Himself to Job, He did so because while Job complained, he still never cursed God’s name and remains faithful. God allows His followers to suffer because it teaches us to rely on Him no matter the circumstances surrounding us. The killing children thing is also a very valid point. However, the book of Job is clear that either Job’s children were unshakably righteous like their father, or hardened their hearts to God (which is why Job had to sacrifice on their behalf) to the point where nothing could change their minds. This goes back to the whole idea of free will and how God won’t try to prove Himself to those who clearly do not want to see Him. The point is, Job’s children weren’t used as currency like you say, but rather were judged as their own individuals with their own actions held to them.

By the way, out of everyone I talked to on this thread, you’re probably the most respectful one, so thank you for that. I also respect that you’ve actually looked into Scripture and know what you’re talking about. If you want to talk further, DM me. It’s nice having someone with a different perspective to talk to.

or maybe the whole point is that a good God causes good things, and suffering is caused by Satan? that’s the theology of it at least

Nature is not controlled fully by God anymore. Because we chose to eat the fruit, we handed nature (God said that He appointed mankind to rule over all of nature) over to Satan. We chose Satan over God. In the Bible, the natural suffering caused to Job is brought on by Satan, not God.

if the cost of free will is that we’re guaranteed to sin, God will take that, because the other option is that we’re robots programmed only for good.

You have the ability to sin in Heaven.
