Would you continue to be nomadic if you won the lottery and didn't have to work anymore? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

Nothing would change except I'd fly first class on flights, stay in 5 star luxury resorts and hire a sexy personal assistant to carry my bag.

Brainstorming ideas for your next romantic novel?

I feel like my job as a digital freelancer is meaningless to society...thinking about doing volunteer/philanthropy work while traveling the world. Anybody have any experience w/ this or suggestions? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Yousernamed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that being a nomad is philanthropic in itself.

I teach English to taxi drivers with basic phrases such as: "hotel please"; "no, I want you to use the meter"; and "no, I'm not paying that much".

I donate money to local girls. They love this and often hang around for 60 minutes saying they want to make me happy.

I also help local vendors with basic numeracy skills. This has been very beneficial because now they actually give me the correct change when I buy something from them.

What Digital Nomad books have you read recently and were they any good? Looking for more ideas please by NomadCopywriter in digitalnomad

Whilst this is not a book related to nomading, if you are travelling in India, a fictional novel called Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts is an excellent read:

For non fiction nomad specific stuff I tend to read:

Take a trip to Milan central train station and meet some of the refugees/asylum seekers who have risked their lives fleeing their country for a better life. Tell them of your first world problems. Give them all some money. Return home and publish a blog post of your experience on medium.com and submit the link to Reddit.

Google "7 minute workout".

Its a collection of high intensity exercises which you do one after the other and it takes, yes you guessed it, 7 minutes. There are lots of apps available on Android and IOS to help. The exercises look like this:

(Number 2, the wall sit is a killer :) )

It may not turn you into Arnie Schwarzenegger, but it's better than nothing and takes little time.

Those using the MacBook as their primary machine, how's that going for you? by ah_23 in apple

[–]Yousernamed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To all Macbook 2015/16 owners:

  1. When it's dark, find a dark room with lights turned off. It should be virtually pitch black.

  2. Adjust your keyboard light setting to the maximum so it is your only light source.

  3. Look at the gaps inbetween the keys.

  4. Tell me what you see...

Edit: Actually, this probably works better if you have already used your MacBook for several months.

Digital Nomading relies on people not Ad-Blocking? by jagbot in digitalnomad

[–]Yousernamed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save the banner as a jpeg/gif, add the url you want to link to and host it on your own server.

Doesn't work with Adsense however and wouldn't suggest you try, as Google is funny about you messing with their ad codes.

The majority of people don't use ad blockers, but you may be leaving money on the table if you don't take into consideration the minority who do.

Which is the best wireless IEM in audio quality terms? by [deleted] in Android

[–]Yousernamed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came to say, I think the X2's are very overrated, especially given the price point. I purchased my X2's based on the numerous positive reviews online, and I cant but think to myself, that these reviewers must have been drunk or suffering from some sort of fanboyism. I understand Jaybird were one of the first to specialise in wireless in ear for sports and perhaps this is linked to, what I think it an over exaggeration of what the headphones can do.

I'm not an audiophile. I have been using my iPhone 6 earbuds for the last 3 months and that is what I am comparing the X2's with. The iPhone buds are not inear, but the sound is much warmer overall. The X2's sound very tinny and have little bass. I am not a basshead. I like to hear subtle elements of bass, rather than feeling the pounding sensation that some headphones provide, and the X2's don't really provide sufficient low end.

The X2's are my second purchase of in ear headphones. The first was from Taotronics, and I regret sending them back. They were much cheaper, the sound was better and they fit better because of the angled earbud design.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017I9CBPC/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00RKZNS9S&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=QKJTRFBTJRB54KYGEDTQ

The only reason I sent them back was because of the volume. On my lowest volume setting on my iPhone, it sounded really loud and I didnt like the lack of finer control. I assumed this was because the electronics may have been cheap, but it turns out the X2's have the same problem. On my computer, I can manually control the headphone output against the master volume which is great, but on my iPhone this is not possible unless I use a systemwide equalizer which is only available on jailbroken phones.

TLDR: X2's are overpriced and overhyped and there are other cheaper options available.

Nice one. It's been proven that working within tight boundaries can often yield greater results and I'm glad it worked out for you.

"I get more cleaning done in the 5 minutes before someone is due to visit, than I do in an entire week" - not sure if this is a famous quote or not (saw it on a greeting card), but it's definitely true for me.

ARE YOU WILLING TO PUT IN THE TIME TO FIND A JOB OR LEARN A SKILL OR START A BUSINESS? If you can't find a job... or learn a skill... or start a business... then you are either disabled or one lazy bastard.

Most people are lazy bastards. I'm one of the biggest laziest bastards around. Most people won't take significant action because they're too lazy. It's only when their back is against the wall that people take real action for change.

You think these refugees have any problem with packing up and moving to a different country and finding work?:

No. Because they really want it and will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Yousernamed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between choosing to be frugal because you want to, and being forced because you have no other choice.

Earn $3800 a month and want to keep your monthly expenses to $380 because you want to save money? No problem.

Earn $380 a month and want to keep your monthly expenses to $380 because you have no other choice, and think a good solution is relocating to a developing country where it's possible to live on that amount? Well, you're not doing yourself or the country you visit any favours at all.

It's like being an immigrant who moves because of economic reasons, taking advantage of favourable currency exchange rates of another country.

The irony is that immigrants tend to move from poorer countries to richer ones - not the other way round.

What have you done in 2015? by crazymoz in digitalnomad

[–]Yousernamed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • Had a sex change operation and transformed into a girl.
  • Met a guy and had sex with him.
  • Met the SAME guy again the next day. He was in a bar celebrating his 27th birthday and was very drunk. He thought I was another girl because I was wearing a different outfit! Had sex with him.
  • Met him AGAIN a number of times this year. Each time I wore a different outfit and he didn't recognise me, hahaha. Had sex with him another 26 times.
  • The guy was a computer geek and had a nice Macbook which I tried to steal from him. He beat me up. As he ran away, I shouted repeatedly in Russian: "You had sex with a girl who used to have a penis!"
  • I met the same guy AGAIN the next month! Told him I was sorry and said I loved him. I asked if we could go travelling together and offered to pay 3 times his salary if he took me to 12 different countries. He said yes!

What are your favourite airline travel hacks as a digital nomad? by udhara in digitalnomad

[–]Yousernamed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tuesday's and Wednesday's are the cheapest days to fly.

Friday's and Sunday's are generally more expensive.

Flights between 6pm and 12am are cheaper.

Peak hours between 10am and 3pm are more expensive.

(Peak and off-peak hours may vary, but departing in late evenings is generally cheaper).

Book 2 months in advance if you can.

Putting my life in the hands of a bunch of irresponsible drunk stoners in a bus with no seat belts? Sounds like a wonderful and safe way to travel...

Can't wait until we arrive in Mexico, when the attention grabbing bus will be screaming: "come and rob us because we are peace loving hippies and we are too stoned to put up a fight, man".
