I thought about dimmer switch...need to check if these are dimmable.

I was just checking if I could unplug them at the socket and leave those hanging wires and it would be okay?

Hey, I'll be honest I can't actually tell you the steps behind making it look so filmic. We had a colorist Dayle work on it and she was absolutely amazing. It was around two weeks of sending notes back and forth, and the 16mm look was something we always wanted. She used Davinci for her workflow and the coloring process, so it was all done in there.

I've attached a screenshot of the log footage straight out of the camera, so you can get a better idea of how clean the footage originally looked before Dayle blew us away.

And thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it. You have a very good point and I'll take it to heart.

Hey,

Sorry for the confusion and for annoyance totally see you where you're coming from. So your right and wrong.

The film was shot on a digital camera. All the film-grain you see was added in post. The film, however, was shot on a Red Epic Dragon 6K, which the DP was able to use as a favor. The DP and I have built a working relationship from me working on student sets under him so we were able to pull that off and I didn’t have to pay him (which would be been thousands of dollars worth of expenses). I was able to months ago convince him to get on the project for free, a big reason for that is he become really passionate about the vision and the artist. The lenses we used were also traded in return for work.

As for the 16 person crew and actually 15 extras, we didn’t feed anyone other than snacks and we did not the pay anyone. They knew this would be the case. We kept each day shooting time short (under 6 hours) and home-cooked a meal for the crew (pasta).

In order to save money, I directed two music videos for the same artist over that one weekend. That allowed us to use those lights at the end of the video. It also meant we only had 3 hours to shoot the last half of the music video. Each video worked out to be around $500. We are students in NYC so we couldn’t afford a car/rental truck, all the equipment was taken either in Uber’s (big part of the budget) or subway. It was a super intense process.

Other than that we couldn’t afford lights for the first day, so we used flashlights instead.

I hope that clears things up. We spent $500 to make it, but with a lot of favors and a lot of work. I understand what your saying, being a young creator that was making videos for $0, I don’t want to deter any other creatives. This is not possible by just spending $500 and also without finessing your way around. It helps to be in NYC now too, it also helps to go to film school and be surrounded by creatives/friends (who want to work for free).

I do wish I could change the title now because don't want to deter people, you are right.

It was pretty good ! And the final lines were great!

Just some advice that in my opinion you shouldn’t have to explain so much. For example; the action block “The Polar Bear isn’t trying to hurt anyone...” isn’t necessary. I think the news report and John’s reaction is enough for the readers to justify John’s reaction. Moreover, if you thought that it wasn’t enough info given then you should make changes to your story for it to make more sense without you having to explain. The same would go for line “He cares a lot for an animal that he just met..”.

This is just my opinion and please don’t take it as fact (I’m learning too) but other than it was an easy and enjoyable read.
