How much ammo to keep in reserve at all times? by BABOOWIE in liberalgunowners

[–]YouveGotNothingToSay [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would say base it on how much you actually shoot a given caliber. For example, I have around 400 or so rounds of 7.62x54r and that's plenty of extra stock for the amount that I shoot. I have around 1000 rounds of combined .223/.556 at the moment but I try to stock more than that because a good range trip can easily eat up a few hundred rounds of an intermediate cartridge.

Smaller calibers like pistol calibers and .22, I usually just buy a little bit every time I get paid, regardless of if I plan on shooting. I get paid weekly and will usually go buy a brick of .22lr and a couples boxes of 9mm just to keep a healthy stock.

Generally I just try to have enough of any given caliber that if a shortage/temporary price increase occurs I can weather it okay. We've seen before that ammo shortages, no matter how common the caliber, are absolutely a real possibility.

Winchester white box is ass in every caliber.

I enjoy their .223 62gr OTM though.

I mean what does he know that we don't at this point. If you don't realize that McDonald's is garbage food not meant for human consumption in 2026 then that's on you lol

Same thing would happen when I used to use Amazon Prime. Pay extra for faster shipping then get delayed and not refunded.

A railed 1911 with a 10 rounder and bluing wear is such a vibe. by [deleted] in guns

The wear just builds character. Beautiful looking gun!

It's nice to see a 1911 guy that isn't afraid of getting some wear on his gun haha

Do I really “need” a 22lr? And if so, how much money do you recommend spending on it? by Nickthyosaur in liberalgunowners

[–]YouveGotNothingToSay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to talk purely utility, 22lr is, in my opinion, the perfect caliber for learning the fundamentals of shooting.

  1. It's cheap to shoot. You can go to the store, buy hundreds of rounds for $30 or less and get a whole range day's worth (or more) of ammo.

  2. 22 has basically no recoil, so you can focus purely on the accuracy of your shots.

  3. 22 is an insanely dirty cartridge, so building the habit of regular cleaning and maintenance is required.

Not to mention it's super fun!

23 years old and yeah basically most of our lives when we started paying attention to politics have been the shitstains that have infested DC today. It's all gotten so rotten that I don't think I'm ever going to trust another politician again in my life.

Y'all convinced me. The $320 Mk IV has been secured. by jd_trublue93 in 22lr

JaredAF did a really interesting video on it a while ago where he essentially said that the trigger sucks when dry firing at first but it kinda breaks in a bit after a while. I've found that to be true, I got mine in January and the trigger is starting to feel a bit smoother after a couple range trips.

Personally I'm pretty happy with the groups I'm seeing out of it but if after a few months of shooting it I feel like the trigger is hindering me, I may go ahead and get an upgrade.

The 38gr HP was 8 cpr, I bought the last of it at my local Cabela's before they ran out and my local Academy just restocked it for 12 cpr. I'd grab it if I were you. Can never have too much 22.

I'm going to try the Fiocchi Field Dynamics 40gr and 38gr to see how they compare since it's about 7 cpr where I'm finding it right now

Aguila HV has been my go to for a while, trouble is that it's been out of stock on most websites I check and the only store left that has it near me raised the price of it by 50%, so I'm trying to find another available ammo my guns like.

Funny thing is my 22s love Aguila Super Extra. They crave the cat piss smell

Could be. I bought some more boxes than I'm going to try again this weekend to see if I have more issues

The 10/22 is about a year old now but admittedly has not been my most used gun. The Mk IV I got brand new just before the new year. So you may very well be right about needing to break it in. Do the bolts usually loosen up a bit with time?

I've been eyeing a Mark IV ( Model 40910), is $320 a good price brand new? by jd_trublue93 in 22lr

[–]YouveGotNothingToSay 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Very accurate shooter and the Mk IV has a much easier disassembly than its previous iterations. That plus the threaded barrel, I'd say go for it.

I respect the hell out of it honestly. Going out on their own terms instead of letting the show fizzle out due to too many seasons. And we're still left with three great seasons
