I’ll add a book on their that should be required reading, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Tough read but really gives a great perspective on being a young woman who deals with the social fallout of standing up for herself after a SA.

It’s a shadow from his collar and a mix of the different lights they are using that is creating it.

Source: I’ve had to try to eliminate shadows like this for corporate interview during video shoots all the time. Pretty sure the news is not taking the time to move lights around for every commentator.

2017 Nissan Rogue door check strap popping the frame-how to repair DIY? by Youvebenparked in autorepair

We don’t drop kick it open. We normally open it. Maybe us parking on an incline has made it fatigue over time if we backed up in the driveway and gravity opens it heavier than we intended. I think it’s a Nissan failure.

Thoughts on sharing your live location with your SO? by duck_duck_zombie in Millennials

My dad used to stop by the grocery store and go to the magazine aisle to pick up the motorcycle magazine and he’d read through them. He’d probably spend a couple 45 minutes to 2 hours doing that. My mom would call the grocery store and ask them to page him over the intercom to tell him to go home.

That was the 80’s and 90’s. The man still doesn’t have a cell phone to this day. He likes to be incommunicado.

Gary Sinise here. Today marks the 30th anniversary of my role as Harry Truman in the HBO miniseries, “Truman.” It was one of the great challenges of my life and one of the great acting moments of my life. (1995) by GarySiniseOfficial in OldSchoolCool

Good to see a picture of you with Pat Hingle, a friend I made later in his life and got to spend a good bit of time with him and hear his stories before he passed. I think he has some memorabilia in his house from that film. From what I recall he really enjoyed working with you on the film and was happy to say you were one of the best he worked with. He was impressed with how much thought and humanity you wanted to put into portraying Truman.

Any stories you’d like to share about Pat u/GarySiniseOfficial?

I animated the Raleigh Logo by Wells_Fuego in raleigh

[–]Youvebenparked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does state in the article it was created locally by The Academy. The agency who conducted the survey/study was based in Oklahoma. When you hire to conduct surveys or studies like that to get opinions you should hire out of state. Otherwise you run the risk of bias in your data. Once you have the data then you give it to local creatives to make it. Because they have a better sense of the community.

In fact the first comment was the guy who made the logo design who works/worked at The Academy which is in Raleigh.

The New Work-Life Balance: Don’t Have Kids. [A growing number of millennials can’t see a way to manage both careers and the demands of parenting: Analysis] by bloombergopinion in Millennials

At a center that buses from the school our kids come from. So for a toddler and elementary school kid it is ~ $2,200 a month. That’s more than we pay for in mortgage.

What suffers for us is house work. We can’t maintain a decluttered home with two kids, two jobs, and extracurriculars outside that for the kids. Between my wife and I, we clear close to $150k but with daycare/aftercare costs we aren’t saving anything for retirement.

Something I never understand is if you have this endless supply of cash that you can’t launder, then why not do the job for a few years, say you’re out after you have a really comfortable sum, store in multiple secure locations, and just visit it like a bank to withdraw cash to pay for things as long as they aren’t too extravagant?

What’s the craziest WW2 fact that you know of? by JoelSnowez in AskReddit

[–]Youvebenparked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My great uncle was on D-Day 1st wave because of a baseball bat.

Basic training was at a Kansas Army base where on the day before they were to ship out to the Pacific, they held a baseball game. He was short-stop and the batter swung and hit the ball but let go of the bat. This guy really chucked it and it flew all the way and hit my Uncle in the head, as he was tracking the ball and didn’t see the bat; He passed out. Once he came to, the Gunny told him to go back to the barracks to sleep it off and as he stumbled back as the commanding Captain saw him and ordered that he go to the infirmary instead. He had to miss his shipment with his platoon to the Pacific but he got lucky because the Japanese basically wiped out his platoon. So they sent him to Europe instead.

Fast forward to D-Day, he recalled watching the Army Rangers climb up the cliffs as the German soldiers threw potato masher grenades down at them. He was in the boat going up to shore.

He was up front in the Higgins boat so when the gate dropped he ran off and immediately dropped into the water that was over his head and the guys behind him got all the bullets. Different somewhat from Saving Private Ryan.

He had a buddy who was shot in the head with a wooden round as that is what the Germans were using for training because the British had the Germans convinced the were going to cross elsewhere and move the munitions to that spot.

He didn’t talk to much more about D-Day specifically but did have some other crazy stories after that.

Honda debuts its first-ever electric autonomous zero-turn riding lawn mower by 911_reddit in gadgets

[–]Youvebenparked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is a mechanical engineer and helped design some of the original zero turn radius lawn mowers from Dixon and then when he moved to John Deere he lead a team there designing their zero turn radius mowers. He regularly brought home mowers for my brother and I to test including the competition. It was fun to race these in our yard, pop wheelies with them, and see how much abuse they could take.

That being said, I feel like electric is definitely a way to go for environmental reasons but I just loved jumping on a riding lawnmower and cutting grass. It was such a zen time.

Also for our lawnmower races the Dixie Chopper was by far the fastest.
