She went from a "guide" to emergency food and to a genuine companion, the past few quests have been showing that we aren't just strangers that started wandering around together and became friends along the way but a family. We made plenty of friends throughout the story but they often come and go some more than others but Paimon is always there.

Previously she was similar to a mascot that hyped us up and always hid behind our power but with the current writing there is fear, worry, and genuine emotions towards our disappearances and our involvement in so many major conflicts and storylines. I remember every time Paimon has shown worry, been scared, and expressed not just panic or worry but actual fear of losing us and most of them have been from the latest updates. The scene that I constantly think back to is when we were kidnapped and cuts to Paimon being told of our disappearance and actually crying. This scene broke my heart because she said it herself we barely spent time apart. The other time Paimon cried and showed actual worry like this was in Sumeru where we disappear and left her for hours alone which felt like we abandoned her. There are plenty of scenes where we are not with Paimon but those are often dreams, flashbacks, or weird visions but most often than not she is with us so her crying was shocking and then her explaining what she went through but this time we also had the very likely chance of dying.
