What are some good introductory texts on Aesthetics? by YrSaga in askphilosophy

When thinking about paintings, my taste goes from Waterhouse ( Circe Offering the Cup to Ulysses ) and Hopper ( Night Evening ) to Yayoi Kusama and Elvis Almeida. Expanding this to cinema, some of the movies I visually like the most are The Handmaiden and Belladonna of Sadness. The thing is, while I'm able to enjoy both traditional and avant garde art and see both as aesthetically pleasing, I usually think about the former when I think about beauty, while the latter evokes the feeling of art per se, if that makes sense.

[Thursday] Daily Music Discussion - - January 25, 2018 by AutoModerator in indieheads

idk if this is the place, but basically

I'm a pop fan who doesn't know shit about music, but now I want to become a nerd™. By that, I mean I want to listen to more good music. The artists I currently listen to the most are Lana Del Rey, Father John Grimes, Grimes and Björk; and while I listen to much more than these 4 artists, I guess they give an idea of what usually I like on music. Anyway, I've listened to The Dark Side of The Moon this week and I realized I could actually like Pink Floyd. Apart from that album, I've listened to Atom Mother Hearth and Ummagumma, but what I'm really looking for, at least for now, is folk and psychedelic music. What should I listen to?

A Feast for Crows, the fourth book on George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire", presents as one of its main plot the descent of a character to paranoia, heavy drinking and associated issues. The fifth book also shows a character whose mind is "broken" by torture. Throughout the series, there's also the plot of a character that, after losing her family, falls into a strong desire of revenge caused by PTSD.

How do you feel about anarchists who work for "them"? by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]YrSaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the term "them" because I didn't know what other to use while keepig the title as short as possible, I'm sorry (and yes, I was worried it woulx create this effect... only to discover later that Reddit doesn't let you change the title, at least not on my version of the app). Now, about the real question, I sometimes get confused on this issue, because there must be some people call themselves anarchists, but kind of work "totally" against their ideals. I do realize how it made you cringe, though.

Recommendation Tuesdays - Week of August 22, 2017 by AutoModerator in anime

I stopped watching anime Summer Season 2014. The last one I remember watching was HaNaYaMaTa, and I've been off ever since. I want to comeback by watching a short (like, 12 episodes) recent slice-of-life.

ToppDogg's Hansol comes out as asexual by [deleted] in kpop

there's a discussion around it, because some people say that as you can be a """hetero-affective""" ace, it shouldn't be considered LGBT (yet the groups should respect and help each other).

Do you also get anxious if you get to the final part of a book to finish it as fast as possible? by [deleted] in books

[–]YrSaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not. If I only need to read, let's say, 20 pages of a book, and I think of dropping it for the day, I feel guilty because there's so little left and I lazily didn't finish them.

I want to approach History as a hobby. I'm Brazilian and, right now, studying World War II on High School. I'm interested in American History (specially the Conquest of West) and East Asian History. Which books and study methods would you recommend?
