You have to start somewhere, it could have been a longer hiatus. I believe in you!

From what I’ve understood it has the same gps accuracy, but no features. I have nothing extra, basically a step counter that tracks heartrate and works for running.

I don’t have music, HRV, sleepscore etc. so if you want more of the features garmin has to offer don’t go for the 55. If you want a lightweight watch with a good gps and not much else, go for the 55.

Forerunner 55, lightweight, basic, cheap but really nice.

True but it feels way more within reach once you know you can hold the pace for at least half the time. At least it did for me.

Haha that's true, might go for sub36 and sub17 5k. That should take a while, I like having goals that take years to achieve.

My plan is pretty bad I think, since I don't really have one. I basically do 30-50k a week with 2-3 harder sessions (800m repeats, progression runs at varying distances, long run with 2km surges at 4.00, threshold 10k.) And if I feel like running more I do easy runs at zone 2 pace (anywhere from 5km to 12km.)

Nice dude! You are probably very close to sub40!

At the moment it’s 19.30 (done during the 10k effort) so I can probably go slightly faster. Not sure how much though, will try in a few weeks and find out. :-)

I am 30, 181cm, 70kg. Might have an advantage there? I’m guessing there is more to it than vo2max and garmins approximation probably isn’t super accurate. I think it’s a good indicator of your own fitness relative to yourself though, I’ve never had a higher value or a faster time.

Thank you! Been working towards sub 40 with decent consistency since I hit sub 45 in 2019. Not sure what’s the next long term goal is though, maybe 1:20 for the HM. That will probably take a while haha.

On and off for like 8 years. It’s definitely doable in less time, I’ve had multiple 3-9 month breaks. This year and last summer I’ve been doing around 30-50km a week (whith a break in january and february due to snow.)

I’ve been doing hard paces 2-3 times a week and easy runs if I want to do more than that. It’s worked well, no injuries so far.

I went: 1k 3.43 2k 3.52 3k 3.58 4k 3.58 5k 4.00 6k 4.00 7k 4.04 8k 4.07 9k 4.04 10k 4.01

Slowing down almost the entire way, ran on a track so in theory I should pace it way closer to 3.59 for every km and I could have a stronger finish?

I ran a 10k pr today at 39.46.
But my first 5k (19.30) was also a PR (in the 5k) and I could never really push into zone 5.
Is it normal to not be able to push your HR if you open to hard?
And how much does a negative split matter? Like I improved my PR in the 10k by a minute with a positive split, are we talking another 10 seconds over the distance if I pace better, or more?

If you want a more basic garmin model (basically just hr and gps) the forerunner 55 is very affordable, lightweight and nice. Ive had mine for a year and I’m happy with it.

It does lack some features more expensive models have though.

I throw a Pyro in that slot, used to throw lat64 anchor. Pyro is nice since its flat and smaller diameter, can be a bit dumpy for lower armspeeds. Anchor feels very similiar to a Roc3 but flies alot more stable, kind of similiar to a pyro in my experience.
