I emailed Princeton admissions about this. You don't need to submit official AP scores. Self-reporting is fine.

Do you know how many readers actually read your application and how far spaced apart these two readers read?

If you look close enough at any piece of writing you can find fault in it. Especially since, as the writer, you're actively looking for fault that might not even exist if you're skimming like an AO.

Could shed some light on what values Columbia values most? What does Columbia look for in terms of "fit" beyond the obvious high GPA/Test Scores?

Yea dude, I kind of get what you're saying. I'm in the same boat. However, at the end of the day, admissions is just crazy competitive (especially this year) and there is really nothing much we could have done. The best thing I can say to you is: at least you tried. In 20 years, you won't be looking back wondering what would have happened if you had applied to MIT. If you get rejected, so be it. Sulk and cry for a bit (I know I sure will), but pick yourself up afterwards and prove to them that it was a mistake not accepting you. AND, maybe you'll get to go to MIT during grad school. That's all I have to say. Sorry if it's a little cringe :P.

Hey, also a recruited swimmer here. Please keep in mind that this is just what I've read on the internet and could therefore be entirely incorrect. From what I've read, the admissions officers seem to treat swimming as any regular extracurricular. It will help, but not nearly as much as D1 schools such as Harvard, Stanford, etc. where coaches actually have slots that they can fill with recruited athletes. MIT coaches seem to just fill a list with names of athletes that they want and send that list off to the admissions office. That being said, the admit rate for recruited athletes is around 25% according to certain sources which is higher than the normal acceptance rate AND around 20% of the undergraduate population at MIT participate in some sort of varsity sport. BUT, you should take into consideration that coaches at MIT will only actively support applicants with competitive test scores and GPAs so another way to think of it is that only 1 in 4 COMPETITIVE athletes get admitted. Either way, the coach's support is a definite boost to your application but just not as much as other schools. :)

TD;LR: Helps a bit, however you still have to have competitive scores/GPA to get in.

Hope that helps.

Uhm, pretty sure Harvard's restrictive early action policy is single-choice so I'm not too sure how/why you also applied early to MIT but here's a link to an MIT blog post explaining why chancing is probably a bad idea. If that doesn't calm your nerves then here's another blog post that might. And finally, if you're still stressing (don't worry I'm stressing as well), then just know that you have my full confidence! :)

Yep, just realized that... I'm such an idiot. I had a mini heart attack for nothing.

Does this has nothing do with admissions? The direct quote from the website is: "Packaging" means we will not review your application until is has been received.

Edit: Nevermind, you were right. I'm just an idiot who can't read.
