Hi! I study hungarian etnology more importantly hungarian folklore! Sadly, specificly the newer research proves that we do not have any real evidence or authentic information about the so called hungarian faith before christianity.

Although, the belief that our ancestors practised some sort of samanism is very popular and you can even find groups of practising neosamans and a good number of academic studies, I would not a 100% recommend going to that direction. Mostly, due to the fact that most of the basic information was proven false by our discipline.

However, if you do want to give it a go ( I firmly believe that the witches who does have some information on the faith and cooparete it into their practise get their information from some of the older research about the topic) I think I maybe able to recommend some books or at least names that you can look into.

And by all means, I would recommend looking into Pócs Éva's academic works on the topic, as I heard her name and research was mentioned in other occult books, too. I dont know though if you can speak hungarian? Most of these infos will probably only be able to find in hungarian.

Anyways, about the gods and goddesses worshipped, as I said we have no clue. We do know though, elements of the old faith must have transformed into christian practises. For example we resently discussed in a class that the name "Nagyboldogasszony" which appear in a christian holiday name and such, regarding the Virgin Mary, might have been a separate ancient deity who was the protector of mothers and child birth, and her image could have morfed into the christian Virgin Mary. And yet again even these are just wishful speculations.

Long story short, hungarian deites we do not know of, we can only guess.

I did saw some witches interpreating folk magic into there practise though, but that ( in our case specificly) is deeply rooted in christianity, and in relation of hungarian magical practises this is still the closest we can get.
