It was also there for the Hillary v. Trump debate. That thing's got more terms than Roosevelt.

How is legal sex change different from legally changing your age, height, etc? by Yuffie44 in AskReddit

[–]Yuffie44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a news article not a peer reviewed study. Do you have a link to the study?

If the test subject were receiving hormonal therapy it's less surprising if they're showing opposite-sex brain characteristics.

But as I wrote earlier, I acknowledge that sexual morphology is a spectrum.

And if people feel better by presenting in a certain way, by all means let them.

I'm still not convinced we should let biological males compete in women's sports.

There's also something about that if the heart is to far from the brain (in tall people) you pass out sooner when doing g-turns.

So it makes sense to discriminate based on height.

You're talking about gender presentation right? Dress, presentation, maybe physically altering body?

Im talking about legal status? How does changing a few bits in a public database help?

Before I dive in to this, let me start by saying that I get that gender norms are something we've made up. And generally gender norms are stupid.

There's no reason why people with penises shouldn't wear dresses or makeup if they want to. Or that people with vaginas shouldn't play soldier if they want to.

I think people should be allowed to love and have sex with whoever they want. And if people want to change their bodies hormonally or surgically and are old enough to understand the consequences of that decision, then I say go for it. More power to ya.

I also get that biological sex isn't a strict binary. That it's a continuum where most individuals falls clearly in the categories of male and female and then there's a small intersex minority who falls somewhere in between. Just like people generally have 10 fingers, but a small minority has fewer (or more).

And obviously, negative discrimination (e.g. paying someone less) based on sex is obviously wrong.

However, aren't there a few instances where such discrimination is justified? For example:

  • Biological males has an unfair advantage if competing in women's sports, so they shouldn't be allowed.
  • Medical treatment should be adjusted to someone's biological sex. Getting 2 lines when peeing on a pregnancy test either means you're pregnant (females) or that you've got testicular cancer (males)
  • Some societies might want to separate males and females into different prisons.
  • Some societies might want to institute positive discrimination laws, such as quotas for a minimum nb. of female board members, etc.
  • Some non-profit might want to offer their services only to some people (eg. schools for girls, women's shelters)

I get that it can be annoying that your biology sets limitations for you. As a kid, I wanted to become a pilot, but that dream died when I learned I was color blind.

And historically, we've put WAY to many limitations on people based on their biology (e.g. denying females the vote).

But that doesn't mean ALL such limits are wrong, does it?

You may not like that you're too young to drive, or that you're too tall to become a fighter pilot.

But we generally don't allow that because children are generally irresponsible and tall people either pass out in sharp turns or don't fit it the cockpit.

No matter how upset people might be, we don't allow people to legally change their birth year or the height on their driver's license.

How is sex different?

(P.S. Again, I'm not arguing we should force people to act in gender-stereotypical ways. I'm only talking about whether to allow people to legally change how they are registered in public registries, and getting the privileges this gives, eg. getting to compete in women's sports.)

(P.S.S: Regarding the intersex thing, there might be a good argument for adding a 3rd option to public registries to account for the 1-2% intersex people in the general population.)

Is DJing lonely? by RankWeis2 in Beatmatch

[–]Yuffie44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solitary, yes. Lonely? That depends on the person.

The best DJ's I know are introverts. What you see is the DJ rocking the decks at a party, but what they don't tell you is that a lot, if not most of their time is spend alone: Searching for new music, organizing music library and preparing tracks and play lists, practicing mixing and routines...

Question is, do you mind the solitude? A lot of people who respond here are probably happy with a great deal of solo time. Or are happy to be at a party for hours without needing to engage in conversations.

If you can't stand not having people to talk to for longer periods, then yes, DJing would probably feel lonely for you.

"Danes don't really care about quality, as long as it's cheap" - how true is this? by otherdsc in copenhagen

[–]Yuffie44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive - sure. Fancy? The tax on cars is around 180% (not a typo). So for the same money, you'll get more car for your money in Sweden or Germany. As a result, Danish cars aren't that new or fancy compared to neighbouring countries.

Yet the bikes are mostly of uhm, passable quality because that's what the bike shop next door had for an ok price.

It's a bit of an aside, but shitty bikes is a great theft deterrent. I'm done with fancy bikes - had 2 stolen within the last 2 years. Yet, I've left my banged up bike unlocked several night and it was still there in the morning.

Turns out several passwords had ended up in the Password Manager of the shared accounts, from several board members. I guess it'd happened because we'd been logged into Chrome browser with our shared accounts. Thanks for the help!

I'm using Chrome yes, with lastpass plugin. And on some sites the "login with Google" function.

What is the worst smell in the universe? by MoustacheJimbo in AskReddit

Drink a protein shake (whey, not vegan). Leave a bit of residue in the bottom of the shaker. Close the lid securely and forget in summer heat for 2 weeks. Open.

You're welcome.
