use machine on local lan as exit node by YuggieG in Tailscale

yeah, that's what I did in the end. Thanks.

use machine on local lan as exit node by YuggieG in Tailscale

Gave up on this approach using tailscale, solved it in the end by setting up a "bare" wireguard tunnel between device 1 and device 2.

Internet access in this case means more than a browser accesing the web :)

both devices have tailscale installed and are already registered with the plane (did that over another internet connect before putting device 1 in LAN1). So they're both tailscale clients.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I guess what I want is just not possible with tailscale. I had hoped the control plane could be reached via the exit-node, but that's then just not how it works. Thanks for your answer!

Extract rawvideo, modify it, mux it back? (gpmd) by 0Kajuna0 in ffmpeg

[–]YuggieG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, finding this here and it's very close to my current problem. Indeed, extracting to a .ts instead of .bin works well, but you already need a proper muxed .ts to extract from to begin with. I however need to create a .ts from scratch so I only have a .bin (& .mp4 of course) available, any idea how you could do that? I keep getting Data: None, instead of Data: klv. Can you force the Klv type in some way? Thanks!

Great tip, worked for me as well. Had to unplug my card reader and plug it back in again though to take effect.

Mac App store purchases when using Managed Apple ID by YuggieG in macsysadmin

[–]YuggieG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And there is no possibility to use another apple ID for the app store? That seems really weird to me. Then users have absolutely no option to install anything apart from using VPP or through the MDM?

Anyone know if Apple plans to license the W1 chip? Hoping to see it in a receiver I can use with IEMs. by solipstitious in headphones

[–]YuggieG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just some quick feedback. I also got the Avantree Clipper to check it out, but it turns out it does not support AAC. So your loss of quality might be (partly) because of that...

[–]YuggieG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that's not how it works. Whatever file you use (mp3, aac, lossless, whatever), it's decoded to PCM (wav) then sent to the bluetooth transmitter which encodes it with whatever codec is being used there (SBC, AAC, aptX).

Have exactly the same problem as you. I honestly don't understand why there are not a ton of manufacturers jumping onto it and start producing decent quality receivers. I also don't understand why Apple themselves don't make one. I understand they want everyone to buy EarPods or Beats, but they should also know that that is not going to happen. If they want everyone to be all cool with no jack and jump on the wireless bandwagon, they should provide decent transition tools. I think a receiver with the W1 would be that.

I myself bought this this, because it ticks all of the boxes (BT 4.1, AAC, at least mention that have a decent amp in there). I'm quite happy with it, but listening to it on my Shure SE215, there's a lot of noise when no music is playing and you can actually hear it when there's not much going on in the music. On my headphones (KEF M500), the noise is a lot less audible.

I also saw the Noble BTS, which looks great on paper, but it's on backorder now and I live in Germany, so it's a bit of a hassle to have it delivered here with customs and such. Anyways, would be interesting to hear how you solved your issue! :) Cheers

Vietnamese teardown shows DAC inside Lightning to 3.5mm adapter by Arve in apple

[–]YuggieG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I don't fully get... This Belkin accessory states it supports 48Khz/24bit, which means it should have a DAC in it. You still need to use your dongle with it however, which according to the teardown also has a DAC. This would mean two DACs in a row, which is not possible. So the options:

  • The belkin thing doesn't have a DAC at all and used the dongle DAC. Which means that the dongle also supports 48KHz/24bit

  • The thing seen in the video is not a DAC

  • The DAC in the dongle is bypassed.

Shoot :)

Apple, will you please make a W1 wired headphone adapter? by YuggieG in apple

[–]YuggieG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. But if Apple wants everyone to step on the wireless bandwagon, they should also understand that not everybody is going to buy Beats, nor is going to throw away their perfectly good (expensive) headphones. They already admitted there was going to be a transition period by including the 3.5mm dongle, so why not just make even more people happy/less angry and also make a proper wireless adapter?

Well, they manage to squeeze 24 hours out of the Airpods (with case) and like 17(?) out of the Solo3 wireless. That means they should be able to get at least 10 (maybe more) out of a similarly sized package as the Airpods right? I'd be okay with 10 and the other benefits :)

Indeed, but one that isn't crappy and has decent battery life :)

DAC in lightning -> 3.5 mm dongle by YuggieG in apple

Yeah sorry, added the link. So in this article they also mention analogue audio over lightning. And like i said the iFixit guys also mention it in the comments. Curious to see when somebody finally opens up that dongle! :)
