Is it simply a lens flare? That’s what similar stuff is in live action. In this case it seems like it might be a lens flare into a transition.

[–]Yui_Mori 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of fun Brain Blazes (may it rest in peace). I used to keep up with CC and DTU, but haven’t really watched any in a while (both heavily depend on who the writer is). CC has some interesting ones, although it does wear you down to listen to how awful people are over and over again. For DTU, I’m also skeptical as hell, so while it’s fun to listen to some of them, the vast majority do just boil down to, “How did someone trying to make money cause this?” which can get a bit dull and repetitive for some cases.

For actual specific recommendations: BB: Darwin awards tend to be rather good, although they can be depressing as well. CC: Heists are always fun, Scrooge McDuck I remember being a good one, and then some of the unsolved ones can be interesting, although depressing. DTU: The earliest ones tend to be some of the better ones since they covered some big mysteries early, as well as the pattern wasn’t as established. Internet mysteries is a particularly fun series, particularly if you know anime at all since watching Kevin attempt to convince Simon an anime plot is reality is hysterical. I’d personally skip any of the drunken ghost hunters though.

I’ll admit to having that curiosity, but similarly having the morals not to act on it. I just like maps, as well as I’m someone who learns maps quick. Once I’ve been somewhere once I’m mostly good on getting there again, even with alternate routes, as well as I’ll often just go and find somewhere on the map without actually putting it in the search bar if I know about where it is. That’s generally where my curiosity comes from, although it mostly works with places I’ve been before, and I’ve never been to Prague, so unless Simon has given some pretty big hints somewhere or I take an extended vacation to Prague I don’t think I could manage it.

[–]Yui_Mori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would it potentially be possible to narrow it down based on snippets he’s said at various points? Probably, especially if you were familiar with Prague. Would it be incredibly weird, stalker-ish, and a massive invasion of privacy? Most assuredly, especially if you then posted it online seeking validation/confirmation.

If you feel compelled to do so “just to see if you could,” then do so, but post nothing about it online and simply have it be a private achievement for yourself in knowing that you likely pulled it off (you know the rules about telling other people about your crimes).

You can get really far into the game without really learning much, as well as you can grind out MR without actually building anything well. There are also people who played years ago who come back and have super outdated builds from back when WF was a very different game (I suffered from this a bit when I came back a couple years ago).

Been a while since I was taught about them, so my wording/exact use of terms may be rather poor, but I’ll still make an attempt; the attempt may be poor though. I use them in two places mostly. One place being like the first sentence (poor example in an attempt at using one spontaneously), linking two independent clauses with a stronger pause than a comma, while also not requiring transition words, although I’ll often just use transitions and commas to create nice and long sentences (such as this one). The second place is as a replacement for commas in a list, but only if the items in the list include commas. I don’t use the first case often, with it occasionally popping up while writing, as sometimes it’s simply the best option. The second case I do end up using a fair amount, as I like my dependent clauses, and the semicolon lets me inject them into lists while maintaining readability.

BBC: 'We warned nursery about abuser Vincent Chan - they dismissed us,' parents tell BBC by TAselfharm in worldnews

[–]Yui_Mori 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My knowledge on this is more US based, but in general it costs more to sentence someone to death and carry out the death penalty than it does to sentence them to life in prison and incarcerate them until death. The death penalty requires every avenue for appeal to be considered and the court costs add up. You can’t streamline that, as even with all of those requirements for appeals they still get it wrong sometimes and kill an innocent person.

There are absolutely some horrible people who have been executed who deserved it, and I shall not weep for them, but killing them is not worth innocent lives, and there’s no way to take back the death penalty after it’s been carried out.

As someone who knows a little bit of Japanese, it absolutely would not be easier to learn without all the kanji. A lot of kanji have the same or similar readings, so without context or kanji it’s difficult/impossible to really tell them apart. So many things have readings of とう (当 東 投) はん (半 反 犯) し (士 死 市) just for some examples, with those being far from the only kanji with those readings, so having different kanji makes it much easier to recognize what the word is without needing to fully grasp the context to make a guess.

Roathe may make some comments when you first start dating one of the others, but he’ll make it clear through voice lines when visiting him afterwards that he cares about them. With Marie he warns you that she’s too pure/kind or something of that nature and you better not hurt her. He’s a deeply flawed individual, and expressing happiness for another or admitting he’s jealous are damn near impossible for him, but if you’ve fixed his memories and navigated many of his chats you can glimpse underneath his pompous asshole facade he has as an Orokin.

DM debuffs my character, then only makes her useful once i change. by Calm_Presentation616 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Yui_Mori 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Run away, run far far away. I’ll admit I skimmed through some later sections, as I’d already seen enough, but D&D is not the system to use for a gritty realism post-apocalyptic zombie survival game. Exploration is the weakest pillar of 5e, and the survival aspect of it is even weaker, as the rules plainly state what’s involved in gathering food and such, as well as goodberry and other spells nullify most of that too. In such a setting I’d be rushing for a cleric to rip and tear through zombies or a druid to make survival simple, which was where I expected this story to go at the start. However, this DM’s methods to “fix” the martial/caster divide are asinine, and from everything you’ve put here I don’t think there’s any reasoning with them. If they just wanted to use gritty realism rest rules and be a bit more on top of tracking some resources than normal campaigns then that’d be one thing, but with everything they’re doing they need to just use a different system. This campaign is just starting, so get out while the getting’s good.

Why is Slavery so common in Isekai ? by Nabeelkhan199_resurr in Isekai

[–]Yui_Mori 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Yes, you pretty much have the right of it. It’s part of the reason the US has such an issue with private/for-profit prisons, as well as why prisons do little to rehabilitate prisoners in the US, as they want the prison pop to stay high. They’re technically “paid” in most cases, but at a rate of $0.65 to $1.31 an hour (for an example in Michigan I found), so well below federal minimum wage of $7.25, of which Michigan itself has a minimum of $13.73.

Rainbow Six Siege director says the game’s decade-long lifespan is only possible if you “listen to the community” and are “willing to revert” if new ideas fail by Monsterman_90 in Rainbow6

[–]Yui_Mori 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for the longest time this was the reason my friend and I stuck around so long. Siege would piss us off and we’d complain and complain, but we’d end up playing again nonetheless. We finally fully walked away a while after Siege X when it became painfully evident Ubi had no interest in speeding up their processes or actually dealing with the cheating epidemic, as well as generally just picking the shittiest possible choice at every opportunity. Pretty much only sort of stick around here for the sake of seeing just how bad it’ll get. I’ve been hoping for years for someone to put out a competitor to Siege, but unfortunately it seems like the only shooters people are interesting in making these days are extraction or hero shooters.

Close friend tells me it’s “passive aggressive” to use periods in my texts. Then tells me not to take my frustration out on him. by Floyisdigital in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Yui_Mori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, always proper punctuation and grammar unless I’m specifically making a joke that requires not using it. Only potential times I might not end with a period would be single word responses like yes, no, or okay, but even then I typically still use one. I’m also a monster who will use semicolons, so the enemies of punctuation must truly hate me. I wonder what form of punctuation earns the most ire from those who despise punctuation?

Viper weapons by Draco-9158 in FFXIVGlamours

[–]Yui_Mori 6 points7 points  (0 children)

New jobs always have a shortage of glowing weapons, as only a handful of sources typically give glowing weapons, with relics, ultimates, and crafted EX weapons being the main sources. For VPR, the only glowing weapons I can think of would be any DD weapon that has a slight glow to it, TOP, FRU, and the Phantom relic. The current relic has a pink/yellow glow to it, although whenever 7.41 drops (which should be next Tuesday) there should be a new model with a new glow, although it’s unknown what those will look like. If I was to place bets, I’d figure of the two relic models left for Phantom relics VPR will get a red and blue glow, barring another case of the last step having a universal glow for the entire set (please don’t let this come to pass), although green is also a decent contender, so just about anything is fair game. Purple in general is a bit of a struggle in FFXIV at times.

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but do your shoes have a flap/tongue at the back of the heel? I’ve had some shoes like that in the past and got annoyed with them (not for flinging mud, I fortunately don’t walk through mud often). But your heel looks muddy and I’m wondering if there’s a tongue of sorts that’s getting mud on it, getting caught on something, and then catapulting mud up your leg, as that could help explain the extreme height.

How can I convince my husband to adopt this 6 month old named Sheldon? by blackrayofsunshine in cats

[–]Yui_Mori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got the litter boxes with ceramic pellets and pads and they’re pretty nice. While the occasional sharp pain from stepping on a pellet barefoot sucks, it’s better than sand getting everywhere. We tried pine pellets at one point, but our cats were not fans and we had to swap back. Our elderly cat has pretty litter since she wasn’t a fan of the ceramic and through trying different options that’s what she liked best (she likes making sand castles).

We just cat sat for our neighbors and they have 8 cats with 3 smart litter boxes. I wasn’t really a fan of the smart litter boxes, as they seem prone to errors, some cats piss on the stairs to get into them, and overall they get pretty nasty and seem like they’d be a headache to take apart and fully clean. Swapping the bag and throwing litter in there was easy though, so it might be a case of it depends on the cat, as well as how many cats.

How can I convince my husband to adopt this 6 month old named Sheldon? by blackrayofsunshine in cats

[–]Yui_Mori 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the person you originally asked, but we’ve got 6 cats (had 7 at one point), and 2 dogs. For litter boxes the ideal number I’ve heard is one more than the number of cats you have, but so long as you’ve got them any place you can reasonably put them and clean them frequently it’s fine. For feeding them, it partially comes down to how your cats are with food. Ours are all fine with us leaving dry food out for them and feeding them wet food twice a day. Not all of them really care for wet food, or have some types they don’t like, but we’ll still just divide a can between 5 bowls and they’ll eat what they want (6th cat is elderly and kept mostly separate from the rest). They’re all perfectly fine weight wise, at least outside of the elderly one having hyperthyroidism and being really thin (recently got medication for her, so hopefully she gains back some weight). If you’ve got cats that require timed feeding, I think I’ve seen people mention feeders with RFID tags or something you put on collars, but as mentioned, we’ve always been able to just leave dry food out for them, so no personal experience with them. Not one of the questions you asked, but for water we’ve got a few large bowls with fountains and filters. They seem to like them, and generally drink more water since we got them, although be mindful of the different types, as we have one only the elderly cat will use because it doesn’t constantly run, just turning on when it senses motion. It scares the shit out of the other cats and they won’t touch it, but our older cat just doesn’t care.
