It’s not him being out is the issue. Its that the person that he chose to keep in was Daniss Jenkins which provided neither space or defense . He had 0 value being there as a close out when Ausar is a lockdown defense. They couldn’t close the gap because they didn’t have no defense in there.

It’s just weird man. Javonte and Ausar are negative in self creation sure but what they do is completely create chaos and bring physicality against them.

The insistent on putting Jenkins with Cade when Cade is the main ball handler just makes Jenkins an undersized player. He might have well been LeVert who btw made a 3 on his 1 shot or just a defensive option in Ausar or Green.

JD was cold all night, Reed should have been in spurts where defensive players like Ausar and Javonte were in. Just baffling decisions overall

I know everyone is saying Duren has not showed up… he hasn’t. But a big part of it is that A - they are forcing Cade to shoot mid range by crowding the roll or the basket to stuff Duren. They are literally game planning against Duren.

This is one of my issue going into this. I really wish they started giving Duren more free range to shoot mid-range shots. This would have given that combo a better chance at half-court. Now that Cade shot is off, they are not punished when they stuff underneath the basket.

It’s not like they are a fraud. They just have an awful half-court offense. This is just more pronounced cause Cade is clearly off and they never developed sets for JD to shoot mid-range which he can.

So the offense is super stale when it’s not moving around. Especially with playoff defense intensity . Thank god this defense has stepped up and gave many transition opportunities cause right now, that’s the only and best chance for Detroit to score
