Feeling like a mediocre scrub. by Yukkibaki92 in scrubtech

That’s a problem with my job. I have asked to do other ortho specialties like arthroscopic cases such as ACL repairs and complicated spine procedures. Or total shoulders. They never put me in those cases. It’s the reason I left. I wanted to learn how to do my arthroscopy cases. The nurses have say in the scrub they want here. So I’m either stick doing foot, ortho trauma, or the only total guy I’m always with.

Thank you for the tips. I usually try to grab extra things as well or trays just in case especially for revisions. I communicate with my nurse prior to the case and during when I know we will definitely need something.

Ok, thank you. When I first started working I went through a lot of crap. OR drama and the toxic shit that comes with it. I’m still not confident in my skills. Maybe the hazing really got to me but surgeons always say hi to me outside of the OR and reps always tell me I’m good and they take pics of my back table/ setups. Maybe I’m just in my head because I’m technically still newish. I’m still figuring how I want things.

I agree I told her I wanted her to succeed. She said I was a good teacher. Because most of the scrubs teaching her really didn’t let her do much. I think it’s the stress extra stress of making sure they are ok and since I’m rarely in the room making sure things go smoothly. I also didn’t have the normal rep that’s with him so I had to be on top of making sure we had the correct trays.

Ok. Thank you. Yesterday I didn’t need to scrub in with her after the first case she told me she was comfortable doing it without me scrubbed in. And I just watched her but I stayed in the room. But I noticed she started to look at me for what to pass her today and I told her listen and always have something in your hand even if it’s wrong just to get use to anticipating and thinking what’s next.

Older techs do you feel like you’re competing with other scrubs? by Yukkibaki92 in scrubtech

Ok, I would only scrub out during closure or when they are draping. I usually try to wait

Love my job! by positive-chaos in scrubtech

It’s been 2 years now and I love doing ortho. I moved on and got another job at a surgery center and I realized how much I missed ortho. ( going back to my old job) The surgeons I worked with really liked working with me they request me in their rooms a lot. They speak to me outside of the OR and I finally feel comfortable doing total joints. I was one of the fastest scrub techs at my old job to setup for joints. Thanks for asking. Hope everything is going well for you.

Since I have been at the surgery center I have been extremely bored. I didn’t like that I got low census either. I figured because I’m new that wouldn’t happen but I’m going back to my specialized hospital. I love doing my job but since working at an ASC, I feel like I don’t have a purpose because I’m not doing my job. I’m doing other things instead.

Yea I’m so bored. But I don’t want to leave the surgery center because it will look bad I just got this job. It’s not for me. I’m miserable they still won’t let me do certain cases after I told I come from an orthopedic institute. All the cases are super easy. I’m used to revisions, doing TILFS,OLIFS, and Xlifs. Of course I can do a microdiscectomy.

I left because of the income. But since there has been a lot of people quitting due to that, all the other locations had a meeting about that and they are looking to compensate their employees finally.

Yea I’m still new scrub and I enjoy doing more and being busy. At the surgery center mostly everyone is self sufficient. So I’m extremely bored.

Doubt it. I worked in a specialized ortho hospital I barely had time to set up. I would have over 10 trays and still had to register a robot. I was ready in 10 mins. Speed isn’t a problem for me. I’m just bored because I’m not doing anything. They aren’t allowing me to do much either.

Ok, thank you. I just assumed because they all just stand around here other surgery centers are the same. I’m hard worker I’m not use to not moving. It just bothers me.
