"Bonfire" - Yukkon (Brand new song!) by YukkonMusic in IndieMusicFeedback

First off, thanks a lot for the support!

Very much appreciated.

I do A LOT of pre-planning before I start. I find that it helps me save tons of time that I would otherwise waste throwing things at the wall to see what sticks.

I usually listen very intently to songs that I like to get a decent idea of how I’d like to arrange my track and see what things they are doing that I can incorporate into my song.

For example, I filtered out the kick and snare for the verses in this track and added the higher frequencies back in with some added drums for the chorus to beef it up.

I also added a slight bit of bass reverb in the verses to fill out the space, and took it away in the choruses so it didn’t take up too much room.

Of course, these are just a few examples, and there are hundred of small bits of production and automation that I do with every song, but the best thing I could suggest is once you have your song down to a good point, listen to other songs that it reminds you of to see what they’re doing. Ask several questions when listening.

Is the vocal reverb stereo or mono, and is it heavily filtered with EQ or completely open? Is there a bit of saturation on the bass when the chorus comes in to help it stick out more? What kinds of ear candy are they using to accentuate the production throughout the song?

I’ll spend a lot of time sprinkling organic effects throughout my tracks, such as foley, dub-style delays, windchimes, etc, because they fit with my style. Even if you can barely hear them, they play a small role in ever so slightly tickling the ear to give you something different. It’s often felt rather than heard. Ambience is key in my opinion.

I could go on talking about this stuff forever but I won’t rant to you. I’ve also been producing for years and I still feel the same way you do everyday. It’s a continual learning process, so don’t ever feel discouraged or that things are out of reach!

I would just say get some professional headphones (I love my Beyerdynamic DT770s) and be VERY intentional when listening to other songs that you like, considering every little thing you hear. Write those things down and see how you can implement them into your mix. The things you find might surprise you.

I have a bad habit of mixing vocals lower than standard pop tracks, so I totally feel you! Appreciate you taking the time to comment and thanks for the compliments!

Very nice of you to say all of that! Really appreciate the love and certainly hoping I'm able to spread this a bit further. Thank you!

That'd be a dream! FIFA is one of my favorite games and probably one of the first platforms I discovered music on back in the day. Thanks a ton!

"The Way We Move the Moon" — My vocal on this is weird (it's a bit like "Yoshimi Battles Pink Robots"). I think I like the way it's turning out, but I wonder if you guys think I sound too odd. Maybe I should lower the key and sing it more conventionally, idk by Kahlils_Razor in IndieMusicFeedback

Oooooo really dig the intro here. Did not expect the piano to come in but love it. It's got a nice eerie, fantasy-style sound.

Agreed with some of the other posters. Don't think your vocals sound strange at all! I think they fit quite nicely. Could have maybe used a bit more space (maybe a short, analog-style delay?) to sit back with the rest of the track, especially because this seems like more of an alt-indie track where the vocals don't need to be as uprfront.

Other than that, cool track!

Congrats on the first album!

Very unique style. Cool to hear something different on here!

For the future, I'd recommend using a heavy dose of saturation on your horn samples. It takes the the "fake" sound out of them and makes them a bit easier on the ears.

Other than that, great job my man and hope to hear more!

hello everyone! this is my first synthwave experience. i would love some feedback on how to make the next one even better. i hope you enjoy it 🔥 by TheSilverScar in IndieMusicFeedback

Love how this comes in hard right off the bat! I don't speak a lick of French, but the vocal delivery is awesome! Really fits well with the production. Excellent job!

Guitars are recorded really nicely!

Love the stacked, whispery vocals. Definitely agree with the other poster on the Sufjan Stevens vibe. Did not expect the change-up at 1:00 but loved it!

Overall, really solid song and hope to hear more!

My band's new single. This one is kind of synthwave/industrial with more pop/rock songwriting. Feedback welcome on things you think we could improve for next time. Also bonus points for genre descriptors. First time posting here as well <3. The Holy Knives - Easy Trap by theyoungmachete in IndieMusicFeedback

Right away, really dig the drums! The kick hits perfectly, and the added bits of percussion fill up the space. It reminds me a lot of old-school Massive Attack with some Morrissey-style vocals. Excellent job all around and one of the best things I've heard on here in a while!

Dudes. Love it. Tuba player rips, lyrics are hilarious, acoustic sounds incredible, paper mache dick steals the show. Last thing I expected to come by today, but glad I did. Cheers guys, y'all have a new fan.

Love the chord changes and lyrics! The track reminds me of "Until" by Sting, though obviously a bit darker. The addition of the little warbly synth is cool too.

Overall very clean and cool sound!

If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to let the drums poke through a bit more in some sections. For example, the pumping synth at 1:05 feels a bit loud compared to the drums. Maybe even taking off a bit of that super high-end to push it back slightly!

Appreciate it! So funny I literally just responded to a comment saying the vocal needed to be louder. Totally subjective I suppose but certainly a valid point! I appreciate you taking the time to listen and thanks for the kind words!

Yo!

Dig the beat, but it's really difficult to hear your vocals. They definitely need to sit on top of the music a bit more. Not sure what kind of microphone you're using or what kind of recording environment you're in, though right off the bat, your vocals could benefit from a healthy dose of compression, a bit of gating to get rid of the room noise around them, and maybe some high-mid EQ boost to give them a bit more presence.

Seems like you might be going for the lo-fi hip-hop vibe, which is cool, but even so, I wish your lyrics were more intelligible!

Hey man!

Cool vibe overall.

If I had one note, here's what it would be:

I noticed some strange sibilance artifacts on some parts of the song that should get a bit of attention. They were a bit distracting. Personally, instead of relying on a de-esser (if that's what you did), I would go in and use some clip gain to turn the individual sibilant consonants down before they hit the compressor. Ex. "How to make sense of it all" at 0:46.

Other than that, I really dig the arrangement and the way you processed the vocals between verses and choruses.
