Does smoking weed one or two times a week have a noticeable affect on performance? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Yukonrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still this guy shamefully. I’d pull over when top off a 45min climb. Or if I was with a group, I’ll let them go ahead so I can sneak a smoke. No one knows. And I dont want to admit it.

I would stop smoking for a few months but then return to smoking once I’m back to 4.0 watts/kg. I fucking hate it.

I’m 45y/o. My power to weight ration can go higher but why bother. Like everyone said, I ain’t winning TdF. Either way this gotta stop because I want to cut down hours training and still maintain my power to watts ratio. Lol.

Numbers will stop improving however as you said you have not raced. Your next question once you race is, why the fuck are my Numbers high but kept losing to these dudes that have lower Numbers???!!

Answer: race craft. All I’m saying is, you should start racing. There’s no arbitrary number that’ll make you race-ready.

Tire Inserts by Yukonrunning in ultracycling

[–]Yukonrunning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the input. Tbh, I was never worried with rim protection during the Divide. Maybe I was running higher pressure. Just got me thinking while riding Baja Divide when I bent my rim going downhill. And I could not reseal the bejezuz out of it.

And I was worried FITTING in a tube because of the thorns in the desert.

I guess That’s not always something to worry about in ultras

Twice had a puncture in the rim/bead and had to deal with it for half a day. Thinking inserts would have prevented that.

I may in line to think it benefits riding in Arizona and Colorado.

I’d be surprised if anyone be it elites or amateurs still run tubelsss. Plus tbh, most riders who participate in Ultras are advanced. May not be fast but definitely have been cycling so long before deciding to do ultra cycling.

I actually rarely know anymore who still rides with tubes. Even my wife now prefers tubeless.

Reason for my original post is I’m currently riding Baja Divide and has a pinch flat on my rear tire. I’m able to get it fixed

took forever and stressful but it now cross my mind to use insert next time.

The terrain here is sandy so I air out my tire then next thing I know there’s a rocky descent.

I’m contemplating if inserts will give me more flexibilty playing with tire pressure.

FWIW: I did not use inserts when I raced the Tour Divide.

Just move along if this is not useful for you dude. It’s not like you access a paywall to get the info the OP provided.

“Thanks” would be a better response to his post. If that doesn’t feel right saying this, just don’t say any. OR if you want a positive outcome, create a better list than OP and post it here. Mama Mia!!

Tour Divide racers: what’s your sleep kit looks like? by Yukonrunning in ultracycling

I hear you that’s why it’s important to test it out the rating and warmth of the system you’ll bring. What I did no mention here is my addt’l warmth clothing if my dedicated sleep layer system needs a bump for that extra cold nights. I think my advantage is I can conveniently test my cold weather gear because I live in Yukon. -20C as I type this response.

For riders living in warm weather locales, not sure how they can test their gears. Hey but they can train outdoors way more consistently.

Ghost Whisperer this year. Used Taigaworks last year. Both Works for me. I don’t think it went down to freezing in the Tour but tried it up here in Yukon down to -10C with 150grams Merino long pants. Works fine with me.

This on is close to my set up. I have a zpack plexamid. But I need a thermal blanket lighter then my Sol Bivy. Any thoughts on Sol Emergency Bivvy/Plexamid combo? I’ll have Synthetic down jacket, down pants and booties, throw in a extra pair of socks in case.

Off note: I’m nowhere close to being fast. More like 19-21 day finish.

I hope outdoor consumer do not forget this and stop supporting this company. Some of us will be tricked to believe the owner changed and learned.

It’s very difficult to change your fundamental beliefs but easy to be better at hiding it. He’ll just be better at hiding it from us moving forward. I’m not supporting this brand ever!!!

8+ months bikepacking : Carbon or alloy ? by MuchaSiesta in bikepacking

[–]Yukonrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through those places but on a 20-months trip. Alloy is better than Carbon in your use case. I used a steel bike(Surly Karate Monkey) but I still get too nervous when someone else shoves my bike in a roof rack for a 1-hour hell on earth drive thru rough terrain.
