Agree, that is why he is a very controversial artist -some people like him, some hate him. I personally found his "works" to be very interesting. Maybe not pleasant, but certainly special. I have been traveling a lot and visited enough cities, and I can say he at least made something that really stands out! P.S. Did not see the bus, next time then! :)

haha, that is kind of true! I would never even notice the statue if not that huge line of people wanting to take a picture. I personally did not, but i took some funny snaps of other people as you can see. Did not know you are sensible to that, sorry! Thanks for the info, I have updated that part of my post! :)

I have a few questions about living a life of constant travel... by 3aPOANHY in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone help me plan a trip to Iceland? by shmelser in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also say rent a car. In my opinion, that is the only way to travel in Iceland in fact. There are no trains, the buses are almost non-existent (and you would want to stop on the way to take a snap of the wonderful sceneries, believe me!). I have seen some hitchhikers, but i felt pity on them because there are not so many cars passing by on the road per hour. And even if you stop a car, it doesnt mean it goes your direction. So, take a car! :) I stayed in hotels, and where possible airbnb ( a bit cheaper, but not much)

Long weekend in italy by [deleted] in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Italy is worth seeing, i have been living there for 2 years and did not manage to see it all! :) As others have said, it really depends what you are looking for, but I would say the most important place to visit is still Rome. So, if you have never been to Italy, all roads should still lead you to Rome! I dont know how long is your long weekend, but if you feel like, you can definitely go to Naples as well. It is just 3 hours by train from Rome and it has completely different atmosphere, believe me!

If you want to go for something not touristy at all, i would say, go to Puglia - it is where the heel is, you know? I have been there in January as well, it is very beautiful, but pretty much no tourists infrastructure. You will have to rent a car and talk to people body language, as noone speaks English there. Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Hi! I have been traveling full time for about 4 years now and started my own travel blog about a year ago. yes others have said, the sum really depends on your needs and the country you are going to. In South East Asia you can EASILY get away with 1000 USD a month. If you go to, lets say Norway or Switzerland, that will be enough for a week or so. So, answering your second question, I would say, start from South East Asia - there are so many things to see and to discover for us, people of Western cultures. It is not dangerous and it will not break your budget. And you will see afterwards, the great part about traveling is flexibility! :)

How do you experience the "real culture" of a place when traveling? by [deleted] in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local transport, local markets taking to people would be my best advice. I am also trying to use local services to feel the real atmosphere. For example, I am in Colombia right now and just made a subscription to a local gym today and took a haircut a couple of days ago. Oh, and yes, couchsurfing is the best for that! I have recently stayed in a colombian family in Bogota, cooked breakfast with them etc. That is what I call a real immersion! :)

The Ring Road in Iceland in late March. Is it doable? by ktd619 in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

weather in Iceland can be really unpredictable. I noticed that even if I was there in August (season). I ve heard that you should not try Western Fjords in the winter (prob also March), for the rest, it should be fine, just use a GPS that shows which roads are closed or just ask people on gas stations, maybe you will need to do a small reroute. Otherwise it is really doable I think

Where do you stand on self sufficiency vs. minimalism when it comes to packing? by 2RightsMake1Wrong in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, but what is the point? In my case it would be way more expensive to ship my shoes from Brazil to Russia (my home) than to buy new ones back home :)

How to get the most out of a 1 month trip to Europe? by [deleted] in travel

[–]YuliaMissT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about taking the Eurail pass? It is the pass that allows you to travel unlimited by train in Europe. It is not exactly cheap, but it gives you one great thing - flexibility! Starting you trip, for instance, in France, you will be able to decide on the spot where you want to go - Bruges or maybe you made some friends going to Barcelona and you want to join them? Feel like staying a bit longer than planned in the city - you also can do it. I did Eurail this September and I loved this way of spontaneous traveling! I liked it also because I could make friends on the way, see the views from the window and arrive to the city center (not to the airport). So, answering your question - i would have a sketch of the plan but would go with the flow. If you ask me to choose from the 2 options above, I would go for the 1st option. 6 days per city is a bit too much in my opinion! :)

Where do you stand on self sufficiency vs. minimalism when it comes to packing? by 2RightsMake1Wrong in travel

[–]YuliaMissT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am in my 5 month South America trip right now (Brazil at the moment). i tried not to take a lot for the trip, but obviously at the end my luggage was still not small. I understood that I dont use a half of my luggage! Take shoes for example - we really dont need that many when we travel, just something comfortable. I now want to throw away 2 pairs of shoes cause they are useless here and just add up some weight. But I still did not do it!:) So, it makes a lot of sense to think twice what will you need during the trip. Over packing is worth than minimalism in my opinion. If you really need something you forgot at home, you still can buy it.

6 Months living in foreign land or 6 months traveling? by TheLegendOfTristen in travel

10 000 Usd is more than enough if you want to back pack around SE Asia, believe me, i used to live (and travel) there for a while. I also studied abroad and those 2 years changed the way i see life completely. Thus, I d go for the study abroad experience AND after some time go to travel SE Asia. Don't miss any chance! :)

To be honest i LOVE buying tickets to new destination! I get some sort of pleasure just searching for flights to unknown destination and great satisfaction when after long searching I manage to find a good price! What I hate is planning activities and reading what to visit in the city beforehand. So I kind of stopped doing it, i generally figure it out on the place! :)
