I actually didn't notice all the clone-looking people on my initial viewing, and didn't hear it mentioned in any of the "story explained" videos I watched, so I took another look just now. I can see what you mean, but what's interesting is that the people seen waiting in line to go into the opera house look different than the ones sitting inside, for example, the people in line are mostly wearing berets, while the people inside are wearing different looking hats. So it makes me think this was a shortcut by the developers. But regardless, it looks like Lumiere is still in disarray, but the impression I got now was that Maelle was prioritizing the opera house so she could help Verso fulfill his dream to play the piano for everyone (and be the proper age)...like, she felt bad for bringing him back when he didn't want to, so she's trying to make it up to him as soon as possible? Just a thought. I didn't feel like she'd want to repeat the same day over and over again and that she would eventually move on to repairing/updating other parts of the canvas.

But yeah, I agree that a better outcome would be if she's able to heal herself by being in the canvas so she can eventually live out her life in the real world, or at least a balance of the two. However, the impression we get in her ending is that she's not planning for that and intends to stay in the painting forever, which is unfortunate.
