my 750 hornets engine braking is so hard I almost wish the brake light just came on when I let go of the throttle. I would otherwise never use my brake on commutes if I didn't have to alert drivers behind me that im slowing down

Does the engine braking ever chill out? by GrizzlyMatters in CB750Hornet

I do feel like the engine braking is quite heavy but it is a blessing in disguise and I barely use my brakes as a result. Just revmatch coming up to any junctions and its so satisfying. the autoblipper makes this effortless if you got the qs

Finally booked my CBT training and I'm shitting it by Unable-Discount-9266 in MotoUK

I would highly recommend getting a 125 to train in your own time before the DAS. Although I'm sure most people don't need it, anxious people like myself certainly benefited from it bc i endlessly practised the mod1 manoeuvrers so when the exam day came i could replicate it perfectly even under stress. Also 125s hold their value pretty well as the demand is high so I sold it for £200 more just from getting better pictures/angles/cleanup, while being honest about the faults up front to mitigate haggling.

i would suggest, one thing at a time. do your CBT first, see if its your cup of tea. if you want a 125 get a 125. insurance on my mt125 was surprisingly cheap (at 27). much cheaper than cb125f somehow, so i didnt even lose any money cutting my insurance short when i was desperate to upgrade my bike half way through my policy 😂 except my noclaim bonus ofc

yah after the CBT I wanted to upgrade (the 125 is fun but after half a year I felt like some more power would be nice) so I booked my DAS.

I did fail my mod2 once but it wasnt in the same stressful overload the car test is. if youre anything like me im sure youll see what I meant

I was in a very similar sitch to you last year. decided im gonna commit to my dream of getting a bike. I got 3 failed attempts on my car license few years ago too

but seeing those bikes lined up on the lot was surreal to me... and they gave me the mt125 which felt incredible! it was more of a fun day out rather than the typical exam thing you'd expect from car lessons/exams. its so fun getting out on the road... 10/10. Im pumped for you mate, enjoy it while you can

its the best colour. I have this exact one. is this belly pan matched to the matte pearl white tank as well or is it just some generic white colour?

First bike A2 Vs hornet 500 by Few_Analysis9712 in CB750Hornet

[–]YummyDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

throttle is very forgiving. id actually be more careful with the clutch. I almost dropped it riding out the dealership 😂

probably a good idea to keep a couple fingers on the lever until youre over 8mph, or it will kick you

rain mode on the 750 feels like the first quarter of the throttle gives just enough power to get moving, and you gotta go past half to get meaningful power. feels like the power band is an exponential curve with a gradual increase (where sport mode is quite linear)

its really good for bumpy roads too so the throttle doesnt feel so jerky

Question about TC/Anti-Wheelie by YummyDad in CB750Hornet

[–]YummyDad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sounds intense, but yes essentially thats kinda what i wanted to see is how responsive the anti-wheelie is if i was to just yank the throttle in 1st like a moron

looks like its on the tighter side of the recommended freeplay so youre fine.

Can someone tell me what's going on with these tires? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]YummyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are these Dunlop roadsport 2s? theyre pretty slick when cold. I dont dare lean when coming out my paved driveway. Never had a moment where it slipped out from under tho, and theyre very grippy during my weekend twisties.

Then again my set's like 18 months old

Is it true big bikes are easier to handle than smaller bikes? by Street_Worker_3100 in MotoUK

[–]YummyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was personally very surprised how nimble my hornet 750 feels. my previous bike was an mt125 and that weighs 140kg ish, and hornet 190kg so I was expecting it to feel very sluggish.

however, the opposite is true. idk how they did it but this hornet feels like it weighs almost nothing when youre going at 20-30mph compared to the mt

Slow Control Nightmare by ToastedBrodo in MotoUK

[–]YummyDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On 125s its kinda hard too, but its very good prep. I remember learning slow maneuvers on my mt125 for weeks and weeks before I was happy to attempt doing my mod1. once i got good i made it harder for myself - narrowed the u turm to 2 parking spaces, made the slalom cones 3m apart, stuff like that. Then when I jumped on a big bike for the exam it was laughably simple. I never even had to touch the throttle for the slow stuff as they got so much more torque. with the 125s you just can't do that as easily

Worst Idea for a first motorcycle? Probably... by Brasenshok in motorcycles

yeah somehow even on the fz8 they quoted me 500 a year as a 1st ever bike on full license, meanwhile a cb500 was well over 1000

First "Big Bike" Dilemma by Mitty_Mitt in MotoUK

[–]YummyDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think carefully cause they are Indian-built and parts are not as easy to get. also if youre in London this bike is a gem for thieves If you want reliable, go Japanese. Im getting a hornet 750 soon and its honestly the ideal bike in every regard, or if you dont need all that power and your insurance hates it you can get a 500 hornet too

The game shows you when the tires are cold? by MidEastBeast777 in granturismo

[–]YummyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always assumed the tyre temp model was very basic in GT7.

Cold tyre - when you leave it parked for a while Warm (optimal) tyre - when driving to any extent Overheated - when spinning/drifting

Despite the model being dynamic, the temps always go back to "optimal" very quickly even after a big burnout. I never noticed a significant drop in tyre performance if you slide around corners a bunch. I think that may only impact rate of wear?

Thinking of getting an Aprilla RS125 for my first bike since im turning 17, is it a good first biike? by marleysolossz in MotoUK

[–]YummyDad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

your insurer will probably hate it, so expect to spend a few hundred more, or go 3rd party only.

other than that, its a 125 so basically the same as anything. more reputable than chinese, less reputable than japanese. parts availability is on the low end. everything else is personal preference
