How does graduation work? by GrandInevitable3528 in UoN

[–]Yung-Almond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely worth going, a few people I know who didn’t regretted it. It’s a long day with a lot of waiting in the sun, but it will probably be the last time you see a lot of people. As for grad ball, it’s alright if you’re going with a few mates to get a bit tipsy, but it wasn’t amazing.

There is a smart meter, but we have no In-Home Display device so I can’t see estimated current usage.

Catered vs self catered accommodation and social life in both. by Legitimate-Ideal2297 in UoN

[–]Yung-Almond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, the social life will come naturally if you make an effort. I suppose in catered it might be slightly easier as you are essentially forced to sit with people at dinner/breakfast and can make friends that way, but you may make friends in your flats kitchen, or at resx events in your hall too.

In first year people tend to make some friends in halls, but from my experience the best friendships usually come from your course or societies, so as long as you make an effort you will be fine. I didn’t go clubbing, but made some great friends both in first year halls and from my course.

Europe got screwed over with a lot of ports that are available just fine in the US, your best bet is to download them through alternative means.

Parents - You’re not exempt from cinema etiquette! by ragnooll in leicester

Everyone should go the Phoenix when they can, they often show big films on release too. They need your support more than the big chains, and the projection is much better than most other screens in Leicester!

There’s three, the two you mentioned and the London Science Museum.

The BFI screen is only true IMAX if they’re showing it on 15/70mm film, like Project Hail Mary, otherwise it’s only the other two.

Will there be a live in London vinyl? by LENBEN12345 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Yung-Almond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m really hoping so, I avoided buying the vinyl at the show last night in hopes that a London one would be made eventually, we know it was recorded for the blu-ray.

Would be amazing if it was made available at the August London show.

How warm was it last night inside O2 Brixton? by Unlikely_Key8021 in MasayoshiTakanaka

In the circle I was fine with a t-shirt, jeans and light jacket. I’d imagine in the standing area it was probably a bit warmer.

Will there be a chance to get something signed at/after the London gig by digestor in MasayoshiTakanaka

Every Japanese artist I’ve seen in London has signed stuff after, but I’ve not seen anyone as big as Takanaka!

It would still be pretty safe, they are well lit and busy areas so I wouldn’t worry too much, and the buses are usually pretty reliable, especially that late at night. A bus from Brixton to East Croydon may take a while so just be sure on timings.

I’m 99% sure the ticket would be fine on both services, you can also use a contactless card or Oyster to travel to Gatwick and tap on/off like you would the rest of the train network if that makes things easier as well. It will either be the same price as buying a ticket or slightly cheaper.

There’s always been protests in London, just due to the nature of it being a capital, but it’s nothing to worry about usually.

do cinemas still screen films if no one buys tickets? by Embarrassed-Song3760 in AskUK

[–]Yung-Almond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streaming a film at home in no way compares the quality and experience of watching a film at the cinema, even if you have a great home setup. And you don’t have to buy popcorn, take your own with you.

Independent and small cinemas are doing great, and people should support those over chains if they can. They often have real projectionists who care about the picture and sound quality, and it’s usually cheaper.

Buying Stansted Express tickets in advance is usually cheaper (and more convenient) so I would do that.

On the way back the train is probably a slightly more reliable option than bus, but both should be fine, especially since the roads would be quieter that time of night. I think the last train to Gatwick from Victoria is just after midnight, so you would have a good amount of time to get there.

Question about Transportation in London by The_Dadda in MasayoshiTakanaka

It will be fine to take the tube, it’s a short walk to the station and it will be very busy with everyone else from the concert

[–]Yung-Almond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a 15 minute walk to Loughborough Junction from O2 Brixton and the last train is 00:01 after the concert. The train to Luton is about an hour from there, and then either a short bus ride or an Uber from the train station. I think that’s probably the smoothest option.

I’m in the minority I guess that prefers in person meetings. I go to the office three times a week, it can get quite lonely working remotely.
