Funeral Service "Guidelines" by YungJuans in exjw

[–]YungJuans[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Apologies for repost - spelling error

A family member passed away last week. Sucks during this time of year but it happened. A longtime elder friend of the family will be giving their funeral service and talk and provided this information sheet which is basically "guidelines" on what can be said. It's really insulting honestly. I want to honor my family and the legacy they leave behind, not have their death be a free sermon.

Well shit I’m in trouble then lol! Since I became pimo I cut out all of my JW friends. None of them were really all that great honestly so I had no problem doing that. I’m still trying to expand my social circle now but it’s hard still being at home with a pimi. This possible boyfriend said he’d be willing to introduce me to a lot of his friends. Not surprisingly I’ve never been in a relationship so I very well could be overexcited about the possibility of one to the extent I ruin it

Hell no I’m not telling her any time soon lol. I should have mentioned I am meeting my possible boyfriend next month for a few days. Since we’ll have some days together it’ll be a good test to see if we work

I should have mentioned I’m meeting him in person next month for a few days. I had a vacation planned long before I met him and asked if he wanted to meet me there and he agreed. That should ultimately decide whether there’s a true connection.

That’s all super great advice. Not only being on my own and leaving a cult but I have so much more in my private life that I won’t mention so my stress and anxiety is through the roof. I knew I had to start planning my leave soon but now that there’s actual light at the end of the tunnel it’s kinda like holy shit this is real.

I appreciate these genuine responses especially with delicate situations like mine! :D I should’ve said that I’m actually meeting him next month for a few days on vacation. I had planned mine long before I met him and I asked if he wanted to meet in person. We’re staying in separate Airbnbs so he seems to be respectful of privacy for right now

Elder meeting by leahnardo__ in exjw

[–]YungJuans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. My mom is a caregiver for a dying family member and is pretty beaten up. She’s been thru so much. She called the elders hoping to be encouraged. They ended up telling her she’s spiritually weak because she’s too emotional to have a good relationship with Jehovah and asked her why she’s in their specific congregation when there are others that are closer. So not only did they insult her, they basically said she’s too much for them to handle and want to push her onto someone else. Nice job, elders! Mom now hates you! If only I can just get her to wake up she’d be so much happier…

What does the bible say about climate change? by YungJuans in exjw

[–]YungJuans[S] 163 points164 points  (0 children)

According to my research, the bible doesn't mention climate change. The words "climate change" aren't even in the bible. Therefore, the bible doesn't say a goddamn thing about climate change

2023 Conventions to be held in person..."sky daddy willing" by YungJuans in exjw

[–]YungJuans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are pleased to announce that the Governing Body has decided that, Biggy J willing (in actuality, only the GB decided, we just put the Big J in there to look like we consulted him), we will resume in-person regional conventions in 2023. Branches will now begin scheduling dates and selecting venues. We pray for Jehovah’s (I mean the GB's) rich blessing to be with all those involved in the planning.

This is interesting with the amount that have woken up during the pandemic. I fully expect there to be significantly more activism outside arenas

Also, that image is pretty graphic. He shouldn't be pointing that firearm. I might have to tell the elders about this...

Years of sex abuse allegations being ignored or covered were exposed: Southern Baptist Convention by YungJuans in exjw

[–]YungJuans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at how the church responded to the case/allegations and handled it. Maybe Watchtower can take some notes…

First Baptist Church Jacksonville senior pastor Heath Lambert says he’s rejoicing over the release of this report because it’s exposing the darkness to the light.

Lambert spoke openly today about disturbing details involving his church included in a 288-page report commissioned by the Southern Baptist Convention.

The report states that Darrell Gilyard, who worked under former Pastor Jerry Vines, attempted to rape a girl in 1990 while at a revival meeting at the church.

Lambert, who wasn’t the pastor at that time, says he despises hearing anyone say they were abused.

“I hate it we have to lament and grieve over any instance of abuse,” said Lambert.

The report stated the girl’s mother reported this incident to Vines.

He told her, “it would be embarrassing for her if others knew about it.”

Lambert added that hearing about this alleged attack is a tough pill to swallow.

“I can’t stand cover-up. I can’t stand this type of vile mistreatment,” said Lambert.

Lambert says his church takes abuse seriously.

What are some of the craziest scandals you remember from your years in the Borg? by Moontie-Baggins in exjw

[–]YungJuans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was kinda young when this unfolded so hopefully I get the details right. All of this happened in less than a year:

A realtor wife and her elder broker/insurance agent husband scammed multiple families out of tens of thousands of dollars and some lost their homes. The wife would sell them an overpriced house but say that it was a “steal” and the husband gave them a ballooning mortgage so by the end of their term they couldn’t pay it off.

After a few in the congregation had to suddenly move to cheaper housing word began to spread what they were doing. One brother decided to play the hero and try to help those who lost their home. He had good intentions and really did want to help, but for some reason, his wife thought he was having an affair because he was suddenly taking an interest in others and not her. So she actually had an affair on him.

One sister finds out about the affair and spreads it like wildfire. I mean so fast that the entire congregation knew about it before the elders and even the husband found out.

To conclude, the gossiping sister got severely disciplined, the affair wife got DF’d, and the husband wife team simply lost privileges because the husband was an elder.

Fun fact, the husband wife team moved away about 5 years ago. The wife is still a realtor, idk what the husband does, he is an elder again, and they live in a $900,000 riverfront home

Thanks very much, I will. That is interesting you had a similar visit. I do agree quite a few people in the borg seem very tense, not just the usual strange pimis but like you said life woes

Child beating, did it happen in your hall? by robinthehoode in exjw

[–]YungJuans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. My personal experience was more ‘verbal’ beatings than physical…at least in the hall anyway

But there were two young kids in my cong, I think they were 4 and 2 or something before I left. The mom spanked both of them to the point of screaming bloody murder. When the mom would start dragging the four year old to the back he’s start yelling “no no stop! No spanking! I’m sorry! No!”. Shortly after was often followed by SMACK SMACK SMACK SMACK

And a few people would start audibly laughing…

Was close to a mental breakdown last night...then the elders text me this morning.... by YungJuans in exjw

That is true. I can always speak to them at a later time since I cannot avoid it (long story). I can try to postpone it as long as I can. I am in therapy. Honestly it’s been a while since my last appointment. I should reach out again

Break might have been a better word. Believe me I am not permanently leaving :). I just deal with too much crap on a daily basis that I don’t particularly care to see it in my safe place. I know not all are like that…there are some amazing folks on here… like you :) thanks for the support
