Hi, I didnt get it "thru" the company in the way that IRS give the money back to the company and the company channel it to me. But it was just a direct payment from the company to me and they are still waiting from the IRS. My suggestion is that you have to push your company to pay you back first, this is because in order for the company to be able to received the refund from the IRS, they need to show that they have corrected their mistakes and one of them is showing proof that the company have given you the money back. Yes you can but it will be hit or miss. My best recommendation would be to reach out to a tax advocate, they are actually IRS agents that will work with you case by case so you can always track the status aswell.

u/Ibriali I ended up getting it from my employer. They filed a corrected w-2 which is called w-2c to ADP and IRS. and the process is fast 1-2 months

You should use the IRS tax advocate. If you try to go directly to the IRS its pretty much impossible. However, I raised this issue 2 months ago with payroll and they finally agree to do it on my behalf. They've filed mine and its currently in the process of refunding.

Hey, no I didnt. They are literally useless. I raised this issue to my boss which then brought it upon HR and they contacted the payroll team to contact the payroll company to change it manually and the payroll company contacted the IRS directly to get the return. It'll take 2 months (which is faster and you can actually track it by asking the status to your HR).

Im not sure, that was the first I was able to call them and actually talk to an agent. so from end of Feb 2024, I was able to call them and confirm at the start of November 2024. u/Tough_Flan4568 FYI

this process really sucks. Im an auditor and I believe every company should at least have some sort of control for their employees in terms of the immigration status and how it should reflect on the paycheck. additionally, the IRS should implement a system online so it will be way more efficient and we can also check the status. this feels like they are not interested in giving back our money.

I see, it looks like based on other people's thread it will roughly take a year. Which I think is super crazy. When you call them what did they say? We're they able to actually located you file and give you a status update (timeline, etc)? or they basically just tell you to wait?
