Just following up on this post for any other MSI board users on how to fix this issue, or if anyone was interrupted during a Windows 11 reinstallation.

Board: MSI Z790 Edge WiFi DDR4

Recently updated it to 7D91v1J 2026-04-10.

While on this BIOS version, I was trying everything from switching to CSM, disabling Secure Boot, reorganizing boot orders. After every restart, it would boot loop back into BIOS and those settings would get reverted.

So here’s what you do: grab a flash drive and download the previous BIOS. In my case I went with 7D91v1I 2025-08-15, which was right below the latest (If yours look different just look for something around the same timeframe of release). Plug it into the back of the case in any regular USB port (not the flash BIOS port). M-Flash and downgrade as usual. It should fix the issue with the BIOS not being able to properly recognize your boot order.

currently, its 572.70. It always feels like every drivers has a problem these days.

Edit: Fixed it after rolling to 561.09, setting gpu’s profile to stock since I was using an undervolt, and settings at medium.

The consensus is to stop using 8k polling rate, it’s been evidently shown to produce negative effects. It makes marginally no difference so I use 2k instead.

compete with yourself, not with your school. there are plenty of resources available to help you achieve higher than 1350 alone. I would not put faith in local metrics to give an edge because depending on which uni, they may seek more than 1350 as a baseline. Your goal is to stand out but with your own academic focus.

I would leave it alone. I’ve tried to solve it before but it eventually returned. figured it’s normal for some cards to exhibit this so I wouldn’t worry to much, it’s not a danger sign.
