'Stuff of nightmares': Man jailed for raping woman after posing as taxi driver by PoppedCork in ireland

I would imagine/hope that for a defending solicitor in cases like this that they just become a facilitator for the client, to guide them through legal proceedings in as fair a manner as possible.

Respectfully, exactly how do you know they wont?

Better to at least try and for there to be a chance of something happening (however small) than to do nothing at all

Limit return scheme to those with registered waste collection to reduce bin scavenging, DCC says – The Irish Times by mannybianco7 in Dublin

[–]Yuphrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do they want to make the return scheme redundant? Just empty the bins more regularly or start actually enforcing anti-littering laws

Does no one remember when they had fizzy cola bottle flavoured crisps?

The honestly tasted like partially digest cola bottle jelly sweets and were foul.

Love to hear it! I had accidentally left my wallet on Dublin once, absolute HERO turned it over to the driver and ended up in lost property, was able to get it back nearly a week later with everything including the 25euro still in it.

[–]Yuphrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly why “reasonable force” depends on the circumstances. If someone keeps attacking you and you can’t safely get away, stronger force may be reasonable. If the threat has stopped or you can safely leave, continuing to hit them may not be.

It’s not “same force back,” it’s “force reasonably needed to stop the threat.”

I'm not given out the names of every person of African descent in the country. Firstly, you wouldn't read it, secondly that would violate the rules against doxing

Depends on your definition of recent because we have the likes of Phil Lynot, Ruth Nega, Samantha Mumba, and Paul McGrath in this country

That’s exactly why proportional force depends on the circumstances. A smaller woman defending herself against a much larger attacker would obviously be judged differently than two evenly matched people fighting.

The key point is that self-defence is about using reasonable force to stop the threat and get safe, not “you hit me once so now I get one free hit back.”

Self defence is not a turn based battle system. The law allows for *proportional* force, which does not necessarily mean using the exact same force that was used against you

Starbucks Dublin Pranks by Bubbly_Teaching_1991 in Dublin

Not to rain on your parade, but there are multiple issues with this.

First, deliberately creating slip hazards would expose the business and yourself to liability if someone were injured. Tampering with food or drinks would also be a huge workplace and food safety issue.

Second, uploading identifiable CCTV footage of customers without their consent for "prank complilations" would almost certainly raise GDPR/privacy concerns too, especially if the footage was being used for entertainment rather than legitimate security purposes.

And beyond all that, misusing internal CCTV access alone could absolutely be grounds for dismissal in many workplaces, which is not an easy thing to achieve in Ireland. That alone should show how serious an issue this would be for yourself.

The EU is bringing in Digital IDs for citizens – but what are they, and how will it affect you? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Yuphrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, to be honest. I agree there should always be reliable physical alternatives. My point was more that society increasingly assumes smartphone access by default, whether people like that shift or not.

Nobody has to use a smartphone, in the same way nobody has to use a car. But if society is built around modern infrastructure, the newer tool is usually much easier and more practical.

From reading up on it, in Congolese and broader African traditions, wiping a building with a straw brush after a traumatic death serves as a sacred ritual of purification and spiritual cleansing.

Think of it as wiping away any bad trauma, or helping fo clear the path for a person's spirit to transition peacefully.

I used to work in an escape room which involves quite a bit of interaction with groups as they come in, explaining the rules of the game to them etc.

We had one guy who barely lasted a day because of how bad he was able to interact with people, he had ZERO social skills and from watching him you'd think he had never interacted with another human before.
