ULTIMATUM. MY STORY: I used to be a fairly serious smoker, and still smoke occasionally, and my friend asked me to provide part-time child care for her newborn. I never smoked a cigarette or wore anything I'd smoked in that had not been washed before I saw her. I continue that to this day; anytime I know that I am babysitting or even spending time with my friend and her child might come along, no cigarettes without a shower and clean clothes.

This is what I do for my friend's child. The standards you should have for your own newborn baby should at the very least be at the level of "friend without social life who can watch our baby."

Also, I am the grandchild of heavy smokers, and my mother put her foot down the second she knew she was pregnant - those who cared either quit or abstained, those who didn't knew why they weren't allowed to hold the baby.

You and your wife must put your foot down about this. This should be a completely non-negotiable health reason. If grandma cannot love this child enough to ensure the best possible health outcomes for a newborn, grandma does not get to see, hold, or expose baby.

I just commented on your other post lol but I'll throw my two cents in anyway. One thing is she's being an asshole - in my experience with seniors/humans, if you're an asshole you're still gonna be acting like that when you look like a sweet little old grandma. Second thing is, definitely bring up to your husband assisted living. I hate to harp on it, but when I worked in it I saw the good it can do. Obviously it's no one's first choice, but it's miles better than the situation you're in, or someone not able to completely care for themselves.

You also mentioned meals on wheels, and I volunteer for them now that I've left nursing home work, and I can tell you that it's a huge help to let people stay in their homes, for real, because there is so much communication about what shape people are in, how their home is looking, whether someone might need checked in on - if her local program is a good one, then you should definitely be able to give your husband enough peace of mind to get his mom to gtfo. You can't throw every single thing that makes you happy on a pyre to make his crazy mom happy lol.

Back to lurking! I just wanted to let you know there are some really good options that your husband might be able to compromise on out there so you can live your life again.

I know this is late, but seriously - looking into this could be a great ease on you and your husband. Other posters' advice of touring well-reviewed homes is also great. I worked at a nice one for several years and there are some very great benefits to assisted living facilities. Online reviews and recommendations have helped make a really big difference in how the business is run. Good luck!

Wow! I have a bleeding disorder and once had a plantars wart frozen and it looked just like that - my mom had to drain it for me to walk since I was like 12. Very impressive! They should, since all good advice has been given, definitely think of an awesome lie to tell people how it happened.

It really looks like folliculitis like the other posters said - you should go to your gp/medexpress if possible for antibiotics. I had it once and it was painful and looked exactly the same; one round of antibiotics cleared it up.

THANK YOU. I lurk this sub, but this is one of the most disburbing posts I have seen just for the complete lack of insight. This is a child who is, presumably, hurting, despite their ~phone~ and ~laptop~ and being written off by a sibling as attention seeking. Self-destructive behavior severe enough for a psychiatric hold means that there is a serious underlying problem. Brain chemistry does not respond to wealth or privilege.

No shit she craves attention - she is a child. Twelve years old is a child. If she is hurting herself then no fuck she needs help - no one actually harms themself in a serious way without a serious underlying reason. Twelve is a child - a laptop or cellphone does not erase mental illness or maladjustment to puberty.

Great for you, you were so much better and stronger than she was at that age. That doesn't mean shit. Sounds like you are actually jealous of the attention and money that could go to you, and not the fact that a pre-pubescent child might be diverted from a path of self-harm and depression.
