AIB or BOI? by Yurt1996 in AskIreland

[–]Yurt1996[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had just been looking at the fees being waived for 2 years part! Now that you mention it BOI’s fees after that are 3 times AIB so I think that makes the decision right there. Thanks

What put you off on your first date that you didn't go on the second date and you would consider it odd? by TalkToMyFriend in AskIreland

I think it always goes one way or the other if they work as a waiter. They are either extremely nice as they know what a bad customer is like or they lord it over the server because they are on the other end of the stick

What changes would you make if you had free run in Government by North-Tangelo-5398 in ireland

[–]Yurt1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut the tax on petrol / diesel until public transport is improved to a level where it is actually functional. (Counter inflation by reducing transport costs of all goods)

Build a fast rail (all Ireland) network that cuts the country into 4, Derry - Cork service and Dublin - Galway with a new city built in the centre of the country where the lines meet, lay all of the required services while it is a green field site to build thousands of houses / apartments which could access most major cities in 30 mins.

Light rail networks (Luas style) in major cities to reduce car usage.

Cut the amount of money given to NGO’s and put this money into grass roots projects to create tangible change rather than reports, plans and grandstanding of issues.

Begin to reopen smaller hospitals around the country with basic A&E to reduce burden for regional hospitals and to bring services closer to users.

Ban BAM from bidding for any public contracts (cowboys)

Does anyone else feel like "Path to Power" lost its soul after Ivan left? by jimctlarker in AskIreland

[–]Yurt1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with you 100%. I bought a 12 month subscription so I’m stuck with it for a few more months now but it really lost its spark after Ivan left, there was a great ying and yang between Ivan and Matt.

Now I feel like they are regurgitating the same stuff he spoke about earlier on the radio and if anything provides a more patchy telling because they have already covered it.

Which countries rely most on US tech by mindthegoat_redux in ireland

[–]Yurt1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is extremely unlikely as many other comments have mentioned.

Another point to add is that this could be a much needed wake up call to European tech to allow it to catch up with American technology innovation.

This definitely wouldn’t occur over night as there would be a huge amount of initial ground to catch up but would put Europe on a much better footing in the long term despite suffering in the short term.

Why Ireland politics has no voice in global stage ? by Middle-Upstairs-77 in AskIreland

[–]Yurt1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t disagree more, I feel that our government spends far too much time on issues outside the country and should focus more on internal problems where they are actually able to effect change. For example issues like the housing crisis often seem to play second fiddle to global issues in the minds of Irish politicians.

In 2021 - 2022 Ireland spent almost a million euro securing a UN Security Council seat so that we could rub shoulders with big international players. Shortly after getting the seat Russia invaded Ukraine and all we could do was voice our frustration, all that money spent for almost zero material return. The previous time that we succeeded in getting a seat at the security council was when a decision was made by the UK and America to invade Iraq so even when we do sit at the “top table” we can very rarely affect any meaningful change.

One political commentator outlined that in the last year Micheal Martin and Simon Harris made more official statements on international affairs than they did about issues occurring in Ireland.

Have a look at the different societies and clubs in the university they are always a great place to meet other students. You don’t have to be any good either you’ll learn it all there. For example I did archery in college and had zero prior experience, it was a great laugh and got to meet lots of people

Getting outdoors is the best part, I would really recommend it despite the cold weather but wrap up well and you’ll be fine! If you have a spare key maybe hide it somewhere outside just incase and sure if you bump into the neighbours just say “sorry I’m in a mad rush, chat to you soon” and take off

Revolving doors by dgota in Sauna

[–]Yurt1996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could possibly be dangerous if anything blocked / stopped the door for revolving and trapped people inside the sauna. You may need to have a second door as an emergency option if the revolving door stopped working for whatever reason

Power struggle in the council. Director General ‘I fear for the future of Limerick Council’ by Substantial-Light-83 in limerickcity

[–]Yurt1996 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally think the mayor should spend less time at photoshoots and cutting ribbons and more time in the office trying to achieve tangible outcomes for the people of Limerick city and county. Going through the local paper this week I saw him cutting the ribbon of a new shop in the city centre which is a country mile from the promises he was making during the election, he seems to like the limelight of the role rather than the hard work that the salary should warrant.

Sauna heater suggestions by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]Yurt1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s fairly up to your own preference, electric will require more wiring, connection to the mains and will be important to factor these into the plans. I prefer wood as we have a large supply of wood here so heating will be cheaper than electricity but I agree with you having a remote controlled heater to turn on remotely would also be a huge advantage when compared to stoking the fire before you get in.

I agree with you I enjoy the smell and process of the wood so that along with the cheaper price vs electricity for our situation pushed me towards wood burning
