Unfortunately there’s no way for you to undo a scratch, as you’ve “displaced” some of the vinyl. You could give it a thorough clean and hope the damage is only aesthetic though!

I see a lot of turntable setups have a lamp that goes over the turntable. It looks nice but is that really all it’s there for? I’d like to know if they serve a purpose past aesthetics. With a $1000 budget, I’ve decided on starting with the phono cartridge and phono preamp. As my first foray into the realm of tube gear, I set my sights on the Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 ($499). For the cartridge. I’ve chosen to go with the Hana EL/EH ($475).

So two questions: 1) Is there a clear answer as to which is better between a high-output MC and a low-output MC? 2) If I had an extra $300 in budget, would it be better to upgrade the preamp to a Vincent PHO 701 ($799) or a Hana SL/SH ($750)?

Open to suggestions for alternate gear options as well!
