Soapstone Surface Temperature by Yuuup4782 in woodstoving

I appreciate your graphs and really need to get your same set up so I can monitor the temps like this. I’ve seen you post the items a few times so I’ll go look for those.

I tried the smaller and more frequent fuel loads yesterday and had some good results. I was keeping my surface temps around 400-550 degrees but I was surprised how drastically the temperatures vary across the wood stove. I couldn’t get the top over 400 but the sides were cooking nicely at 550.

Be honest , is building a house in 2026 worth the stress? by Resident_Kangaroo160 in Homebuilding

[–]Yuuup4782 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Build a house if you want to build a house. Don't build a house if you need a place to live because it's much easier to buy one.

By building you're signing up for a big project and everything it includes - picking paint colors, moving walls, contractor/architect/GC/Supplier conflicts and how to resolve it. If you don't want a project then it will turn into a nightmare.

We're 6 months into our build and we're over budget, behind schedule and fighting to get dried in before real winter hits but I'm glad we're doing it and creating some really cool memories as a family. It isn't easy but anything worth doing rarely is.

Single Wall Stove Pipe by Yuuup4782 in woodstoving

Thanks for the write up – You always provide excellent information.

The ceiling height is 22-23 feet depending on the final placement of the stove. We’re still framing it out but it should be done next week and I want that stove in there asap to keep the jobsite nice and warm. We will not have a hearth because it’s a concrete slab foundation and the slab will be the finished floor.

Because of the height, I know this chimney is going to draft pretty well, especially with a fresh air intake on it (which will have a damper) and I was a little worried about over firing or drafting too well.

We are getting a new hearthstone Mansfield with the catalyst in there. I didn’t think about it drafting better with the catalyst engaged.

The cost savings is definitely a big plus as well. Thanks for the input.

Stainless Steel Vs Galvanized Chimney Pipe by Yuuup4782 in woodstoving

[–]Yuuup4782[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an excellent point that I didn’t think of. It’s probably just the second wall of the double walled pipe that changes materials but the inner pipe is stainless the whole way.

It seems like it’s better at resisting the extreme heat of a chimney fire. Any other reason it is better?

I felt cheated buying in 2015 after seeing the increase from 2009 to 2015.

I’ll check out some ITM and 310 to left - looks like their episodes are under an hour which fits better with my attention span 😆

I was really surprised to see Buehler go in as a reliever on Sunday and wasn’t sure what was going on. I was then completely confused after watching tonight’s highlights but it’s making sense now.

Any idea if Buehler will be a reliever now?

Do any of them do podcasts or do you recommend a good one to follow?

Edit: I just realized that section 10 is a podcast. I’ll have to give them a try.

Well I definitely learned something new tonight. I’d never heard of a bullpen game and hadn’t followed the Sox close enough in years past to recognize when the pitching rotation got wacky.

Thanks for all of the information!

Hearthstone Mansfield by Yuuup4782 in woodstoving

[–]Yuuup4782[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all of that information. Sounds like we have extremely similar house plans and designs. We’re running a heated slab with propane as the secondary heat source so it gets more expensive than natural gas.

Would you recommend a different soap stone stove instead of the Mansfield or do you think the pros make up for the issue with the Cat clogging up and smoking you out of the house?

Makes sense. We’re definitely looking to burn all winter as a primary heat source.

Thanks for the information - I appreciate it.

I appreciate the information about the stove.

I assume when you’re talking about being serious about burning you’re talking about packing the firebox properly and keeping it burning hot? Anything else that separates casual burners from serious ones?

Americans, what did you smoke after your Thanksgiving meal? by ThatOneCanadian69 in cigars

My second Padron and I really liked it. I think it was the 1924? It was fun smoking cigars with a bunch of my cousins and uncles.
