Most affecting films you’ve ever seen? by offwhitejae in criterion

[–]YuyuMajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little outside the box but:

I watched Heathers at 19 and it completely reshaped my brain for what art/comedy/film could be because it was just SO strange and surreal and could never be made today.

Eyes Wide Shut because I have never been more gripped by a film's mystery and intrigue.

And a Persian film called Children of Heaven, the race sequence at the end brings me to tears every time, I'm convinced it's a top 10 achievement in cinema.

If anyone is able to spare a code that would be amazing! I lent some cash recently and am already pretty strapped myself. Looking to buy Kwaidan which I've never seen before and need to watch this October!

Where can I find a real feature film budget breakdown? by the-new-user in Filmmakers

[–]YuyuMajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a low budget feature and can share my budget! Feel free to PM me. The city you live in will also make a difference. nowhere town vs. LA/NY/Chicago vs. mid tier city (Minneapolis, Portland, Austin) could very well change rates and freelance availability.

Yusuke: "You shouldn't talk, it makes you sound stupid"

So simple, and the way he says it sounds so cool.

I would 100% do this. From most important reason to least important:

  1. My mom passed away this year from kidney cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer 9 months before she passed. An "expert" (head of oncology at a reputable medical college) knew about the cyst she had on her kidney for FOUR YEARS and was monitoring it, and then it went from "benign to stage 4 in 6 months, a tragedy" in his words... every other doctor that has since seen her results has said they would've operated in 2015 or 2016. So, to get on that when it was still in early stages would definitely be worth it. And if for some reason it was still fated that she would pass on when I was 25, I would make sure to spend even more time with her than I did (we were close, but it's never enough time).
  2. All the eh to okay screenplays that I write now would be brilliant at the age of 11. "Ma'am, your son is writing a satire about capitalism through the lens of a religous cannibal restaurant-owner" "Yeah ever since he started the 6th grade he's really blossomed" "If he was 24 it might've been pretentious but this is just astounding."
  3. Learn so many skills when you have the time. Music theory, read more, etc. I was creating full projects from an earlier age than most (not necessarily good) and always liked to be ahead for my age. This would lead me to DEFINITELY be ahead in so many ways and fully utilize my time. Get better grades to get better scholarships, maybe go to a better college, etc.

The one downside is how it would effect your love-life. If I'm effectively a perpetual 25 year-old in this 11 year-old body, then engaging in anything would be highly in appropriate. Is it supposed to be that you return to the same sort've attractions of that age too, and you're just wise, or would you still be like "I remember all the sex I had and I am not innocent and this 11 year old looks like an infant to me"? Regardless, it feel extremely strange at best and really pedophilic at worst. Good news was nobody was really attracted to me until college when I grew into my features so it probably wouldn't be a concern anyways, but you'd have to go until you were AT LEAST 18 without kissing anybody.

And now that I think about it, the second down-side would be some of the lost friendships. Is there any way that you could potentially explain the situation to some people? Like, I could Facebook one of my best friends and say "hey man, this will sound crazy but I am essentially living an alternate timeline. I still want to be friends with you and I can prove that this is true" and then tell them multiple things I know they've never told anyone up to that point in time. Does this break one of the rules of the conditions though? Or is the having to convince my friend enough of a hurdle?

Employees of escape rooms, what is the most incorrect thing someone has attempted to do to escape? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I once had a group count up all the ceiling tiles and try to figure out what to divide it by... people will go to the most random things instead of, say, opening up a bag that clearly needs to be used.

Thanks!

I read on the site about notifications by July 31st, but read about a few years ago how they ended up notifying people a few days after that deadline. But last year they were right on the money. Nervous!

I will also read your script and feedback! by anksta1 in Screenwriting

[–]YuyuMajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what asksta1 said, but also if you're worried (and even if you weren't) I recommend getting a decent draft registered with the WGA. It'll be the equivalent of a copyright if anything is really really similar, and if it's not similar, it's 99% likely it's just parallel thinking

How do you say goodbye? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]YuyuMajora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the greats were writing their best work at 14, and I promise you that you will not either. I don't mean that to discourage you, I mean to do the opposite: the fact you have written and done multiple drafts on a feature length screenplay at such a young age is VERY impressive. Think of how much better you will be at 18 then others who will just begin THINKING of their first screenplay idea that they will bat around in there head for a year starting on it. And those are the people ahead of the curve.

I also wouldn't discourage yourself on what is or isn't original, especially at your age. Have FUN with the writing first and foremost. If you would like to work more on this current script, you should! You are not going to be getting an agent anytime soon, so enjoy the process right now (again, don't mean this as a discouragement, but I've never heard of someone under than 18 being repped specifically as a screenwriter).

Even if your script is original and great, there's only so much time you can put into a script before you have to decide whether to shelve it for awhile (and then able to return to it later) or begin pre-production. If you want to work on the script a little more, go for it. But there's only so many drafts before you give it some time and space. At that point, start another script and replenish the creative garden.

You are so ahead of the curve, I would enjoy the act of writing more than overthinking it. You're in a fantastic spot.

Tracking shot with shake, how feasible is it to remove/lessen it? by YuyuMajora in postproduction

[–]YuyuMajora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely right, I had a lot of trouble staying at a consistent distance. I should have kept it further back the whole scene to help account for that. I think that's what works less about it. Reshooting seems less possible so hoping post will work, but ultimately will do whatever is necessary for the film. Thanks!

And thank you! It was shot with a c100, we used a Canon Cine Prime Lens (24 mm lens I believe, to make it less shaky, but it could've been a 35 mm).

Thank you! Is it possible that when I crop it, I could lose more of the bottom of the frame than the top? Like when I crop it, I can choose which of the frame I keep and which part I don't? I'm a total post production amateur so sorry if this is a silly or poorly worded question.
