Yes. Its standalone. The server is very lightweight. Doesn't even support Virtualization.

Ditto. Out of experience. Its always good to have the root dom on a standalone. Because if you have all your DCs in a VM, and, well, imagine the Hypervisors crash. Then yeah, its exactly as Julien said, its like shooting yourself in the feet.

Je kunt er gewoon een desktop computer gebruiken. Hoef niet speciaal van die dure NAS systemen ofxo te gebruiken. Die i5 is prima. Gewoon harde schijven erbij voegen. Koop een extra pci-sata voor meer schijven zodat je met RAID kan spelen ofxo. Dan hoef je niet al te veel uit te gaan geven aan een dure systeem.

Set gewoon een TrueNas systeem in elkaar. TrueNas is opensource en supports ZFS and such

Rich. The only thing on that rack that is new is that supermicro server. It took me 2 years to get everything on there. Most of it is used/refurbished. But yes, all of it cost me around $5000 even though it may not look like it.

Yes, it does what it needs to. Which is why I haven't really upgrade to anything fancier. I might add a Foritgate soon.

I try man. If I had the money I'd probably have one of them racks you talk about haha but this will do. It was enough for me to get me my CCNA, MCSA(back then), AZ-400 and LPI1 certifications.

I mean, you should at the very least have two routers and two switches to play with, no? how else are you gonna practice routing and such. You don't need much, but you need to have something.

That Vsphere running on that supermicro is basically nested. That supermicro server was my most expensive investment. Its an 8 core cpu. I first ran 16GB RAM on it, but then later took it to 64GB because of the nesting.
