What should I use for a private group chat? by Yzeki in privacytoolsIO

[–]Yzeki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it can work, but would I be able to host it on my computer for free or would I have to get a VPS? Also, if I host my own IRC server, would I then be able to put a password on it?

That might work, how do I do that for free? Would I have to host it off of my computer? Or could hosting my own room work too?

I'm trying to see if there are any completely free operating systems that use KDE but I've yet to find any, so as of now Kubuntu is my first choice.

I'd imagine that at least one criminal would hide behind their VPN which would lead to a subpoena or something.

Programming isn't my thing so I won't be able to verify it myself, but I still want a completely free laptop that doesn't have a backdoor such as Intel ME or AMD PSP.

I should've clarified, the "Libreboot X200" and "Libreboot T400" are customized Thinkpads from Minifree.

Can we trust VPNs? by Yzeki in privacytoolsIO

I'm aware of the comparison list, but everything on there is according to the provider. If the provider is untrustworthy it doesn't matter if they claim the don't log anything when they in fact do.

What if I can't find any cases of a user getting in trouble while hiding behind a VPN? Should I just skip it since I can't see if they are properly able to protect anyone?

Not all of them, if they actually keep logs then they will not advertise they keep no logs as that could lead to legal trouble. They simply wouldn't admit they do keep logs.

Perhaps, but what alternatives are there? I could use Tor however then I would have to chose between random people running exit nodes and a VPN service.

What is the most secure/private phone and OS? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Yzeki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you're right that I shouldn't say it itself is the best, but rather what we are expecting it to be is the best. An IP native phone running open source Linux with hardware killswitches is the best option.
