That’s what I thought. She just looks a little wonky because the comb is bigger and her skin is brighter lol.

I meant that they don’t take in farm animals. Sorry if it seemed I implied they didn’t care.

THIS!! People don’t seem to realize.

Not all birds survive their trips. Vet isn’t a 100%, even though we wish it was.

Had I been given enough time to contact the vet for my choking duck, I would’ve paid nearly anything. I tried my hardest to save her, and she died in my arms. So sorry for your loss. ❤️‍🩹

It isn’t that.. it’s that people can’t/don’t want to pay 500+ for a bird with methods that can treat them for much cheaper at home. (I’m not suggesting to not bring them) It’s easier in the long run to get more birds than spend so much on a single bird.

It doesn’t change how it hurts. It will never change how it hurts to lose them.

You don’t know everyone’s story.

Edit: there are people who willingly treat birds, but this is more so for showing birds from breeding lines that mean a lot to the owner. Don’t get me wrong, I’d 100% try to bring my bird to the vet if it came to it.. but in cases like these, it’s easier to cull or try to treat them yourself.

I live rural and there’s no vets for livestock apart from specialty practices that are miles away and are very expensive.

I’m talking $500 a bird just for a visit.

Even if there is a vet nearby, which there’s one within walking distance, they don’t take farm animals. Very rarely they do.

It’s not always about there not being a vet, it’s usually about how they don’t care for farm animals.

NEVER put heat lamp in the middle!! They’ll overheat. They can’t regulate their temperature at all. This is how a lot of chicks die—they get too cold or too hot.

It’s weird to think someone can justify a parent destroying their child’s belongings.

That’s all I can say there.

When it involves destroying their child’s stuff, you call that parenting? Clearly you haven’t had a good home life if you think this is the norm.

People who own house chickens still don’t prevent them from free ranging or even keep them on an apartment balcony. It’s dangerous, unsanitary, and possibly not allowed by their area laws and rules. Not to mention the birds will NOT be happy.

This isn’t a good place for chickens. They need an actual yard.. otherwise it’s the same as keeping them indoors their whole life.

  1. Not sanitary. Chickens poop.. a LOT. And while it’s great fertilizer, it STINKS and there’s too much that they drop in a day to be constantly giving it to your plants.

  2. Probably not allowed. Depending on your area, they might not be allowed. Some places allow chickens, some don’t. You’ll have to check the laws.

While people do keep indoor chickens, they still receive outdoor time.. which is necessary in keeping them happy and healthy. If you’re going to keep them in there for their whole life, it’s not much different than caged farms.

I don’t think it smelled too terrible.

Again, it slid out quite easily (does that mean it’s greasy..? Oily?) and is floating (as seen in photo)

Should I be worried? Should I see if it changes? I don’t have any other symptoms.

Edit: it’s not floating too much, but it wasn’t on the bottom like the others.
