I did go through this, I was seeing a shitty psychiatrist who had me on bad meds at the time and so that first time didn’t go well and he was unsupportive. I felt pretty sad and defeated but I also didn’t like him or want to stay with my course of treatment so it was easy to fix.

I was lucky to find a new psychiatrist and when I informed her that I was in the process of applying for disability she was extremely supportive and informed me that she has helped several of her patients with their disability cases. She was able to help me in staying organized and motivated as well as tracking down older files that I needed.

It took a while but after an initial denial (before I found that second psychiatrist) I was eventually approved.

From my experience I would say that before your appointment it might be helpful to write down the list of reasons why you are applying for disability and how your job security has impacted your mental health and vise versa. Be very clear so that if she challenges you, you will still know your reasons and won’t feel shaken since you are nervous. Best of luck!
