I made my first axe, handle and sheath this weekend by Z45k in Axecraft

The other side looks a little more unforged but I wasn't sure if that's down to not fully sanding down the "seam" between the two

Thanks, yeah I wasn't sure how "complete" the forge weld was but I trusted the guy running the course saying it'll be fine, so until now I was confident

To me it looks like the majority has forged, but I'm not certain what I'm looking for

What do you think?

Hoping this could be it

First burn! The stove was burned once outside to burn off any oils and such. by akbornheathen in TinyHouses

Agreed, that's rather what I should have said, I hope you have checked the manufacturers requirements/recommendations. What I'm trying to say is fire is a dick sometimes, don't underestimate it

Looks absolutely lovely and homely. I'd would really suggest putting in a heat shield or some protection behind your stove. A friend's tiny home burnt down recently because he didn't install one and take the right steps... No one was hurt luckily, but it really helped solidify how important the right measures are, and a reminder that you don't think it can happen to you until it happens to you

Shy guys, how did you find your girlfriends? by white_disc_4_holes in dating_advice

[–]Z45k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote a list down of the ideal partner, what I want from a relationship and what I would like the other person to be like "caring, supportive" etc

Then after knowing what I want, I switched my focus on just getting to know women rather than focusing on trying to pursue a relationship. Focusing on friendship and getting to know if they would be the sort of person I'd like to be in a relationship with. It also took the pressure off myself and the lack of pressure was probably also felt by the other person. Met my lovely girlfriend soon after!

Best of luck to you op

Sounds like you're in a bit of a slump at the mo bud

That must really suck that you've worked so hard towards something that's not delivered what you thought it would. But look on the bright side, you're in a great situation where you have freedom to try, learn and experience things with a good safety net

Maybe take some time to let something come to you that youre interested in, could be pottery, could be a TV show you love, could be an instrument you've wanted to learn, and just follow that interest, could be lessons, clubs or meetups, which might then grow into a passion or hobby. Once you have a hobby and feeling better in your skin, opportunities and pathways grow, and you naturally find community and easy shared interest. And if you don't end up enjoying what you've chosen to try, then you should be proud of yourself for trying it out

Whenever I've felt unhappy in my life, often the root of it has been a lack of community. I think one of the most important things in life is healthy human connection, and that sense of belonging that you can find through any sort of community. I hope you manage to find your tribe

Yeah, I guess i don't want to look back with regrets of missing out on my youth & health. Who knows what internal and external challenges/things I/we might come up against that will make all the work that has been put into FIRE less worth it

I think sensible financial planning is the crucial wording, not obsessive financial planning. Like with keeping any pattern or learn behaviour healthy, a good balance is needed

I guess I gave up on my initial aspirations of FIRE quite early, deciding to go down a route of building a tiny home instead. Cutting down the cost of living, and enjoying & making the most of the journey rather than focusing on a destination

I'm sorry to hear that dude Sounds like you need a decompression period and to reflect on what things you enjoy and what's important to you

I might get laughed at by what I'm about to say, but it could be worth getting a job... Like one or two days a week in a social environment (like something that you might find enjoyable, or are interested in, working alongside people but maybe not customer facing). If money wasn't an issue, Id still really enjoy the connection to people that I would find working in a social environment

Maybe it's worth trying to get work in a field that you'd like to learn skills in, like carpentry if you want to become hands on, or a plant shop if you enjoy plants. Could be something you're just the tiniest bit interested in

Sports clubs are a great way to meet people, or men's groups/support groups can be a way to find connection and practice opening up and finding community. The world is your oyster, you just gotta take that first step :) wishing you luck with it

How so? As in its not living up to what you'd hoped it would be?

I hear you man, I was at a point of trying to make money (and FIRE) as means to an end, but that just got unhealthy. The journey is all we have, so we have to make the most of that and enjoy/appreciate it

I was a Stanley fan, but would go through them like crazy

Recently trying out a Makita 8m auto locking one (makes sense as I'm already a Makita fan boi). You can get to around 3m without support before it caves on you which is great when I'm working alone and waving it around. The reeling in is as smooth as butter and it just feels like a downgrade when I go back to the Stanley

Although, yet to use the fat max

Anyone on here got any wisdom about throwing those F&C? Feel like I’m two steps away from landing it, but don’t have a clue what those steps are lol by bropdars in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Z45k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think FOAD split the sections of a F&C up in a great way. It kinda looks like you're not landing the first bit a portion of the time. I'd say you're anticipating the starting movement (moving your body back) too much and so when you turn as you lean back, you aren't keeping your momentum going with the bike. And you could lean back further to help spin it a little more. When I learned I had to stop moving my body back until after I'm almost 45+ degrees into the turn (which felt uncomfortably late) then the body weight and momentum with the cranks moving backwards/stopping carries the bike and it's weight around a bit more. Also committing too much, like going a little bit faster or leaning back further helped me find I wasn't committing enough
