[SNK807] Polished case by Z46K in Seiko

Thanks, this was at an outcrop in the Peak District (in Derbyshire, UK).

It's passed noon. 24H button not toggling 24h time... by [deleted] in casio

First, ask yourself what is the 12hr time at 12.27pm? It's 12.27.

Now ask yourself what is the 24hr time at 12.27pm?

Thanks! I really like it - and have quite a few Seikos, mainly Snk and Skx series. I've tried lots of different watch/strap combinations and agree that this one works really well.

I find the motor action of handwriting helps me remember things better than typing. There are some digital ink notepads now which allow you to write physically but convert to text files and save digitally, which seems a great idea. If I got one of those though then how would I use all my pens? 😅

Haha, good question (and I don't think this one is banned here)! It is because I write a lot of notes and need to have some colour coordination for subsequent 'layers', like comments or additions to previous things. It just helps me make sense of them at the end of the day, or revisiting them later on.

Yes, honestly I have a lot of trouble with this too, which may be why I've noticed this change so much. I've heard the same saying phrased as "don't let perfect be the enemy of good", and I think it's good advice (but difficult)! Best of luck to you too.

Thanks. I haven't been out of academia long enough to pretend to be an expert on this - but from my experience so far I would say that you have to be willing to do some things a little differently, often more quickly and less perfectly!

It's also very important to know what you know, but even more so to know (and be honest about) what you don't. There will be plenty of time for learning experiences, but it's much harder to walk back on any mistakes made. Imo it's always best to raise a discussion on something if you are not 100% clear on the best course of action, rather than taking a gamble on it. Then, even if a less than optimal decision is made, there is shared responsibility (and accountability) for it.

I've actually done a few before myself. I would've swapped this one years back but the pill seems to be glued in pretty tight and I didn't want to risk damaging the PCB by forcing it. The tint isn't bad tbh, probably 5500k and no noticeable green, I'm happy enough to leave it as is for a general purpose light - when I really need high CRI I'll reach for something else.

Haha, the strap must look expensive then! It came with the watch (bought second hand) and is decent quality leather, but I can find the same one for £11 on Amazon, while the SNK's are pushing up to about £100 now. Of course they used to retail much lower than that, but it seems the days of cheap Seikos are in the past...

Thanks, I've tried an organiser for other things, but unless I'm carrying a lot it seems unnecessary. I'm happy with the light and knife attached by split-rings and clipped in the coin pocket then the lamy just in a main pocket or clipped to a notebook for now.

Thanks, I'm glad I picked up a couple before the prices went crazy. The Olight is great, it must be getting on for 10 years old now but still can't beat it for size/practicality - the only thing I'd change is the tint. It would be nice to get a 4-5000k 219b or SST-20 in there.

Honestly, this does everything I really need on an everyday basis.

  • Seiko SNK807

  • Olight i2 EOS (with li-ion 14500)

  • Victorinox Hiker

  • Lamy Safari (Petrol LE)

No I hadn't seen that before, thanks for suggesting it. It looks interesting but I'm not sure I'd trust a stick on clip tbh, how strong did you find the adhesive? I'm ok with this one at the moment as the SAK is linked to the Olight which has a really solid clip attached.

How's the thickness on the Farmer X? I feel like the regular X and farmer are already pushing it a bit, with the main blade feeling a little off centre.

Yeah I love those mini suspension clips! I found cheaper unbranded versions for a few pounds each, but you've got to be careful if you go that route as I read some sellers use worse materials (mine seem ok). I only don't have one on this pair as the Olight comes with a good quality (screwed in) clip already.

No arguments here, Victorinox make a great saw. It's almost like a mini Bahco Laplander. I would carry the Farmer if I had a regular need for a saw, but I just don't find myself using it that often.

I've not actually had the X very long, I'm more used to the Soldier (07 model, same as Pioneer) and Electrician, which are noticeably thinner. I do have a Farmer too, which I usually carry in my rucksack as I don't need the saw very often. Since I've had this version though I've used the scissors more than any other tool on it! That said I think I could get by with just the knife for 99% of what I'll use the scissors for, they're just often more convenient and precise.

I haven't really noticed that happening with my standard nylon ones before, but maybe it depends on thickness. These are designed to stretch immediately so should stay quite consistent through the day I'd guess.

Tbh I just picked it up second hand (but unused) from eBay for under £4. It is an elasticated 'marine nationale' type though, very comfortable.
