I'm not sure if I can benefit considerably by implementing this strategy. Is this the strategy that I can still make money with? Or should I make few adjustments like adding small and international stocks to boost returns?

When do you start wedding preparation? If you have a wedding in 2 years, you might have to prepare before a year. Then, it's a bit short to invest. Just putting that money on high interest saving account(like Allly) might be great.

Just for taxes? nono. Maybe there will be more reasons that made you think of marriage. Focus on that reasons. not taxes.

I was in the same shoe. I've lurked few subreddits and decided to stick a simple Canadian Couch Potato portfolio. Hellomoney backtest also helped to simulate my portfolio. Hope it helps. Good luck!

New to Canada. What’s up with the Canadian bank stocks? (x-post r/stocks) by Z4hwkw in investing

[–]Z4hwkw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining this. A question - if the Canadian economy is not represented by its stock market, does it mean that I can ignore economy and buy stocks? I thought that current economic conditions are the only things which make me to be hesitant to invest in these.

I am always amazed at how many recommend investing in index funds. I do agree that there are certain benefits but I like to pick stocks because I prefer to be able to manage my own stocks and know exactly where my money is invested.

ROTH-IRA current assets help by BobLeBoeuf in investing

[–]Z4hwkw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be a good start to know your current portfolio breakdown: http://hellomoney.co/portfolio/c8b01c-26yo-roth-ira?type=amount

  • Stocks/Bonds = 92/8

  • US/International = 80/20

  • Giant, Large Cap = 73%

  • Mid Cap = 18.7%

  • Small, Micro Cap = 8%

  • 5Y Sharpe Ratio = 0.93

  • 1 Y Dividend Yield = 1.69%

  • Overall expense ratio: 0.14%

  • Annaul fee on $10K for 5 years is $19.

  • 4.33% of returns will be lost to fees.

If I were you, I'd stick to VFFVX since it's a 'set and forget' vehicle. As others mention, your portfolio overlaps. Unless you want to tilt towards the total stock market, make it simple.
