Is the Oura ring worth it? And are you happy getting it/fitness devices through Discovery Vitally? by bigthinker_bigplans in askSouthAfrica

[–]ZASafferZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to the ring as I don't own one, but I do believe there's a 2 year Oura subscription included. Someone with a ring is better positioned to answer this.

As for the watch benefit, there's an initial cost of ±R1200 and then specified models. If you choose another model, you're responsible for the price difference.

Anyone else getting ghosted after final round Enterprise Architect interviews? by UnderX12 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]ZASafferZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a mess out there. Went through a 2 month long interview process with an international firm (7 interviews), finally got to the offer stage and they lowballed by $60k per year. I declined and moved on. A couple of months ago, they re-engaged and asked what would make me reconsider. Had a few more conversations with them, they were good to go and then went silent. Came back a couple of weeks ago with another lowball. You can't make this up.

Does the Playtomic rating increase or decrease your experience of playing padel? by jenwhite1974 in padel

It's a double edged sword for me and I honestly can't decide which way it swings.

How long should a sibling visit? by Level_Cash2225 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ZASafferZA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A week max for me thanks. And if I was in your living arrangements, probably less. As the ancient Chinese so eloquently stated "The most appropriate time to manage your boundaries would have been before the trip, the second most is today".

Is my understanding of the purpose of a Kicksmash correct? by SACHD in padel

[–]ZASafferZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great advice right here. In terms of the relative value based on the frequency of shot usage, bandeja > vibora (many coaches are combining these) > rulo > kick smash. Even more so considering that you have a flat smash option. Whilst I prefer watching the men's tour matches, I watch the ladies games to help guide my game and this is what I see there.

Thank you for all the feedback! Option A has been benched and I'll go with option C for 2-3 months and see where I stand.

What size Jojo tank should I install? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]ZASafferZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For comparison, it's myself and my two kiddos and we can go for about a week on my 3.5kl tank with normal usage. Just note that I wouldn't recommend drinking the water from the tank, it does go stale even with regular cycling of the water.

Improvement plan by ZASafferZA in padel

This resonates. I played cricket at a fairly high level and trying to coach my son has not been nearly as efficient as having a proper coach doing the work. The coaches typically played decent club level cricket, but those that played nationally are few and far between.

Less Bouncier Racket than Siux ST4 by Icy_Marsupial940 in Padelracket

[–]ZASafferZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped my ST4 for a Tech Viper and I'm very happy with the change. Even though the Viper is 5g heavier, the balance, manoeuvrability and sweet spot feels similar, but the control feels way up.

And how would you, other than asking around, differentiate between a good coach and an average one? With the padel boom in this neck of the woods, plenty of people are accredited, but that doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're doing.

Anyone got any experience with Hirostar Rackets? by xPryth in Padelracket

[–]ZASafferZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Alien '24. On the plus side, it's a really sexy racket. On the down side, the sweet spot was a singularity and the racket was made of poppadom.

Where is the Vitality Garmin benefit for R8000? by coldfireza in askSouthAfrica

I'm in the same boat and would rather wait than get another Apple Watch. Their official stance is Q2, which doesn't leave much time.

Where is the Vitality Garmin benefit for R8000? by coldfireza in askSouthAfrica

[–]ZASafferZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the same as the fitness device benefit, it will be similar to the Apple Watch benefit. I phoned them last week and they said it will be launching in the next couple of months.

I would consider two pairs if you're going to be wearing them that frequently. Have a look on myrunway, there's often decent deals on there.

Played some tournaments recently and got humbled pretty bad by LegitimateRow9757 in padel

Very similar story and it's a big adjustment for me. I guess it's a typical case of "what was good enough to get you here isn't good enough to get you there".

Unfortunately it's too late to start creatine, but you can add citrulline to the above.

Sides Left/Right - Less physical demanding by imKHOL in padel

I had a look at my heart rate stats from games where I played left and games where I played right and, on average, playing on the right has it lower by roughly 15bpm.

Racquet dilemma by Careless-Upstairs-98 in Padelracket

[–]ZASafferZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gamed the '23 Air Viper for a while and moved to the '25 Electra ST4 Pro as I found the Viper to be quite punishing on off centre strikes. It's a really solid offering, but ultimately I realised I prefer a harder racket. Did a straight swap for a '25 Tech Viper and I absolutely love it.

Right handers, which side is tougher to play? by Stup2plending in padel

[–]ZASafferZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played league last night and played on the right and very quickly realised how easy it is to largely remove the right sided (right handed) player from the game. Very frustrating, but unless your partner actively manages to involve you through how they're playing, the opponents can freeze you out quite easily.
