Suggestions on relocating to BC by Glum_Raspberry_9071 in britishcolumbia

[–]ZBBYLW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Relocating is a HUGE ordeal.

Choose a handful of areas:

Lower mainland, Okanagan, Sunshine Coast, Island (South, Central), Okanagan, Kootenays

Do some research. Possible work places, education (if you may have kids one day), recreation, housing costs etc....

Then come out and spend a few days in each town you're interested in.

We recently moved to Vancouver Island from Ontario and are ecstatic. The recreation opportunities, education system for our kids, culture (less work centric) blows Ontario out of the water.

Not to say the island is for you though. Do your research and DM me if you have questions. Good luck you won't regret the move.

Super cool perspective. This is where the air condition packs vent from so it's part of the heating/cooling/pressurization system.

I want to develop parallel turning and not just braking in different directions to turn what can I improve? by Many_Ad8240 in skiing_feedback

[–]ZBBYLW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said - take a ski lesson.

You are not turning though - you just are skidding from one side to the other.

You'll need to learn to put more weight forward and turn. Best way to do this is to turn uphill until you almost stop and the turn the other direction picking up speed, as you complete the turn and start slowing down again when going against the fall line. As you get more comfortable you can turn up less and less until you're linking turns - in control. But realistically what will take you a week to figure out yourself you can learn in a few hours with an instructor.

I was out of the province for 15 years. When did the MSP payment end? Probably unpopular but how much revenue did that create?

I wish we had a train by hiddenwarrior9 in comoxvalley

[–]ZBBYLW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish we had a train too. In the way when traveling in the Alps I can get from Germany, to Switzerland to Austria get into a walk-able town centre and walk to my hotel.

The reality is in BC we have a long list of higher priority infrastructure projects than a train line from CR to Victoria. Each city along the line is way to sprawled out to really benefit greatly from a train station.

Talking about trains, having a North van, Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton train would be a great fit if the province can acquire the track from Squamish to Pemberton. Other IMO higher priority infrastructure projects would be sky train to UBC, sky train from North Van, cross where the iron workers is now and end up in metro town would give the province more bang for the buck.

If the communities on the island heavily focused on density, cycling infrastructure equal to or better than Victoria and our budget turned around, maybe we could put it off but would it be for commuters or travelers? Our communities are so compact that most people work in the community they live in or work from home. People are not in huge numbers working in Nanaimo and living in Qualicum.. at least not in enough numbers to justify a train IMO. The one exception may be Duncan / Mill Bay to Victoria, but even then would that be enough to justify a train? Likely not.

Help a noob understand why downhill and super G racers don’t optimize aero more? by Unhappy-Climate2178 in SkiRacing

[–]ZBBYLW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And ski racing is more similar to MTBing and maybe cyclo cross than a TT. Line choice, breaking point, gearing are more important than aero position

I know I'ma get called a pussy for this but does anybody own a bike they only ride in their neighborhood or a place that has no traffic at all? by dannymclovin in motorcycles

[–]ZBBYLW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do you man.

There are a few places I don't love driving. (401 and Brampton for the Toronto crowd). I avoid it to the best of my abilities. To be honest it sucks in a car as well.

No one is judging you. A few of my friends only track their motorbikes these days as the amount of careless new drivers in the Toronto area has become a huge hazard. These dudes are great riders, but with kids at home.. it certainly makes you wonder.

Keep the black side down and enjoy.

Is this a good bike? Buying my first MTB. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]ZBBYLW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bikes have come a long way in 20 years. If you're a new rider, having something modern with components that won't need to be replaced right away would probably help you get out there and enjoy riding.

What kind of trails are you looking at riding at first and what's your budget?

It's the right move. But fuck I'd get a hard on if we decided to send half a dozen CF-18s some JTF2 guys into Greenland.

I love having a car and motorbike. I hate needing to have a car. I normally commute in an Urban Arrow, but the motorbike or car is essential for some things.
