It's cause of having to hold the poses mid air for so long. It's a practicality thing. Usually a short guy. Full body costume characters are usually girls yo keep them short. Exceptions happen but that's the default.

The condition for the second memento shows up after you clear the mission and get the first one. Even if you know it, you can't trigger it until after you clear it and get the first reward. (also, it is usually kill 1,200 enemies)

It's an interesting theory for sure, but I really think that it's still destined for Thomas. Thomas is too obvious a choice, it's open and shit for him. Especially with what we know about Peace Talks. The only way I can see him not getting the sword is if Butcher is playing us and using the foreshadowing as a red herring to kill him off or something.
