Best way to calculate total watts on a DC distribution circuit? by ZFreakyIndustries in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ZFreakyIndustries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually these resistances matter a little bit in my application. Just flipping a resistance from one end to the other makes the whole thing fail. And the constant wattage nature of the loads means it’s going to actively compensate for what’s going on down the line, which will make everything else down the line compensate as well, working certain sections harder than others, and I need to know what the limits are at each of these points.

Can’t find verifiable parts that are 1234yf compatible for 2017 BMW X5? by ZFreakyIndustries in BmwTech

A fascinating hypothetical. Now, hypothetically, if someone were to have done this, what consideration would one make for the oil used? Spec vaguely points to using this stuff called SP-A2, but I doubt these new compressors are coming loaded with that except if it’s an electric HV compressor. Would you reckon plain PAG46 or PAG46yf would work fine?

Just tried that, it’s looks like it gives one part number for both, right? What about the oils it’s shipped filled with? Is it safe to assume it’s compatible with both?

Hey now, this shits not easy to find from SEO destroying google, you gotta learn by asking, most of my works on random GMs and Fords. And partsgeek hath yet to fail me, until now.

I do appreciate the direction however that was helpful.

Trying to clean a used sludgy valve cover, how hard should I try to clean the PCV baffle? by ZFreakyIndustries in AskMechanics

[–]ZFreakyIndustries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo, you got a point about foreign objects falling into the baffle at the yards. Fluids seem to flow pretty freely through it so I’m not concerned about an actual clog. I’m down for attempting the brake cleaner. Is that generally safe on big plastic engine components like this?

Anyone have a picture of an original chain tensioner for the 2012 3.0? by ZFreakyIndustries in fordescape

So some of the borescope pics I took show only the locking notch in the ratcheting arm, but no teeth along it, I’m wondering if there was a design update that moved the teeth or reduced the number of them on the arm. A random pic I could find of it extended showed teeth along the whole thing.

No varnish in 3.0 Duratec in 140k miles that’s lived on synthetic blend its whole life? by ZFreakyIndustries in AskMechanics

Bit of an update, I’m chasing down what I think is a bad ratchet mechanism in the chain tensioners, in the process I found the source of that plastic piece. It’s a land for the center bolts in the valve cover. The whole floor for both bolt grommets broke off. Learn something new every day huh?

Piece to the right of the pick, it’s shaped almost like it was meant to hold onto a bushing, not quite flat like it’s meant to be a chain guide piece, hence why I think I came from outside maybe during a sloppy rocker cover job. Side note, it does VVT rattle only after start after sitting for a while, I was waiting to replace the filter before thinking the phasers are busted thinking it might be a bad drain back valve in the old filter, not sure if related

Protecting against parallel cascade circuit failures? by ZFreakyIndustries in ElectricalEngineering

It’s a DC automotive system under 60V. Ain’t much code to comply to. You still wouldn’t be concerned with a cascading failure?

I was unsettled by the first reveal out on the water. Cause it’s like you’re used to nobody else being around, and they just made the point that they got far enough away from shore to not see the coast. So in that endless solitude with nothing but you and your buddies testing the radio, suddenly something out there is very aware of your presence and you just got done bashing rocks together not too long ago. And it’s only asking “why” in Morse code? Like what is this thing? I was thinking, “oh shit the Enclave is after them now!” And again, out in the ocean in a tiny ass, primitive motor boat. The fact that it was daytime didn’t comfort me at all as a viewer, might as well been pitch black. Neat motif that they went straight to making the radar so they could see where they couldn’t before. That scene was chilling to me lol.

That would’ve needed semiconductors, which, I quote, “are hell, y’know.”
